30 Day Photo Challenge – 10/30

I’m one third of the way finished!!

Today is a childhood memory.

Tea party

As an only child, I would spend hours playing alone in my room. I had imaginary friends and dolls that could talk. We would have tea parties and I would fake a British accent. Liv has a teapot that sings so she does the cutest dance and at the end she takes a bow. I still can’t get her out of that damn Cinderella dress and heels.

Tonight is the NELA art walk. We are so pleased that Liv is making her artist debut with her “rainbow” piece for sale at Mi Vida Boutique.

I hope you all can play along 30 Day Photo Challenge

Kanye/Wes Anderson Mashup

Okay, by now you know how much I lurve Mr. Wesley Anderson. I own almost all of his amazing films and have all the soundtracks in heavy rotation on my ipod but I’m not so much a fan of kanye *I find him and his girlfriend obnoxious, narcissistic and angry*. As much as I dislike the guy, he is featured everywhere, on songs I love with Jay Z, on my favorite birthday/BFF song and now he’s on this rad tumblr, Kanye Wes. I am compelled to like it because yeezus’ lyrics and the images are a collaboration made in heaven. Please do enjoy.

Brilliant!

Ch-ch-changes!

One of my favorite David Bowie songs says it best. I am collaborating with the talented Art Director, Antz to redesign Violently Happy. We are playing around with new color palettes, fonts and streamlining the mess I had on the side. I am already in love with the fancy new header he made me. What a sweet Valentines day gift! What do you think? We have a bunch more to work on but so far me likey!

Today Liv and I headed to the Arts District in downtown LA. I bought a few sweet things from the majorly rad Poketo shop to use the gift certificate we received as our anniversary gift from Kim & Warren *thanks guys!*

It’s very hard to not want to buy everything they have. I hope to get a pair of these charming earrings on my next visit.

I couldn’t resist this hair bow. I love that it can double as a bow tie.

Leslie bought a blueberry pie from this place last summer but I have been wanting to see what they have for myself. Since it was lunch time and we hadn’t eaten, I opted for the mac & cheese pocket to split with Liv. So amazing! I couldn’t leave without getting my love a treat so I got the crostata chocolate pie. They have the yummiest pie crust I’ve ever had…and I’ve eaten several Marie Calendar’s pies!

I am all about metal chairs lately. These Marais look perfect with these dark stained tables. The perfect balance of modern and vintage. *adds to my new dining room wishlist*

The arts district has the best graffiti in town. Liv always gravitates to this mural. She like the owl.

“Look Mommy, funny!”
 We had a fantastic day.

Hope you lovelies have a happy happy Valentines day!!

Just Desserts

You know, as much as I love technology, it can be a cruel, unreliable bitch. I have no idea why a witch has cursed me with drama-related bullshit with me and electronics. In a way I suppose everyone has their issues, some have boy troubles, others have crackhead drug drama but me, it’s the gadgets.

PLEASE, lift the spell, I just want my shit to work!!

I bought this Mac Air so I would never again have to deal with spyware, wonky software or sluggish speed *score: Dell 3 – Liz 0* I was hoping a Mac would be an upgrade *all the graphic artists I know use them after all* So far it’s been a rocky relationship. I had to take it for service just 3 weeks out of the box and my old hard drive died on the very same day I was transferring all my old data *what a coincidence, right?* then as the Best Buy dude was restoring my new Mac, he informed me I had already filled up the 128GB memory with the 20,000+ photos I had…grrrr! I ended up buying a larger memory/laptop and spent another $400. I have been in heaven ever since but now that I have my brand new beautiful *never been dropped!!* Nikon J1 camera, the drama has returned. We went to swimming lessons this morning and Antz figured out how to take the continuous snaps that I wanted to make stop motion videos, so we played around with it taking over 300 shots. This evening we went to the Just Desserts art show opening our friend Mary was curating so we took another 100 or so more shots.

Liv wore her chocolate cupcake beanie but was not in a smiley mood

Everything was hunky dory until I tried to upload the photos. I am getting most of the shots uploading black….may I present exhibit A

Void, darkness & nothing

This was once an adorable photo of Antz holding Olivia. I checked Apple support and as usual, it’s useless. Antz thinks I should take my computer in to have them look at it but they always tell me they have to restore it to factory settings and I can’t take losing any data *all 20,000 photos, 10,000 songs, 5 movies, and my Office files* I’m palpitating just thinking about it. I am such a bad-luckington with these things. It’s really not fair. I spend all this money and still have ghetto results. Excuse me while I go cry on my pillow. Oh! and it’s no fault of the J1 camera, I uploaded all 388 photos on Antz computer just fine. I’m also having some issues with uploading photos with the old Nikon too. ¿Por qué?

Here’s the photos I managed to upload, I’m posting them now since this may be the last you hear from me.

I have a freaky phobia of AT-ATs but this one I like

I’d love to show off my friend’s pieces but sadly I can’t upload them on my computer. I’ll try to do it on Antz computer as some point. Le Sigh

The verdict

After some serious taste testing with regular milk and *chock milk* as Liv calls chocolate milk, Kieran and Olivia *along with Terry and I* have decided the rainbow cake is a hit. I used cream cheese frosting which looks yellowish so I didn’t have the crisp white I wanted but boy was it yummers.

We only ate half the cake so there will be plenty for the three of us in Palm Springs. Even though the slices are small, with so many layers, it’s filling. I’m stoked to try it again in 2 weeks. I may bake some mini cupcakes for her dance class since she’s going the Friday before her birthday, depending on how busy I’ll be prepping for our trip.

Today we went to Scruffin’ Rock and took a nice long walk after. Liv has been liking murals lately.

I love how she’s intrigued by art *future museum curator*  Tomorrow we’re going to an art show opening that has like 8 of our talented friend’s art featured. It’s a Just Desserts theme which is more than appropriate.

I can’t believe it’s almost summertime! I am ready for new bedding and this Orla Kiely bedding set has my name all over it. I am still kicking myself for missing her homewares line at Target a couple of years ago so I may have to jump on this *with my 20% coupon, of course*

As excited I am for June to get here, it’s gonna be a busy month. We are going to our friend’s Carlos & Stephanie’s baby shower, swimming lessons, Father’s Day and Antz birthday will keep me busy. Our nephew and niece are expecting a baby in June and Liv’s pre-school is having a Summer Serenade Morrocan Masquerade party. I will be making masks for the whole family.

This made me pee my pants!! Happy Weekend lovelies!

Hither & Thither

We had a fun, busy weekend!

Scruffin Rock class!
Running fast as lightening

Julie played a song by Yann Tiersan *whom I adore* from the Amelie soundtrack and this cute song from Mad Men, which has been in my head for days now.

It was a rainy day
I am obsessed with Instagram lately

Lovely garden
Swimming lessons at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center

I swam laps while Antz and Liv enjoyed her lesson, the water was as warm as a bath
This guy was hilarious, he spoke with a thick German accent and he kept talking to me about his 9 grandchildren and how he swims everyday to stay in shape. He was 65 and FABulous!

Our beach, where were got married, Topanga State Beach
The one great thing about not going to Coachella *possibly the only thing* is the city is empty, we had the beach all to ourselves

It was crazy windy but amazing!

Uhh, dinner?

What a beautiful day!

We happened to drive past Caine’s Arcade. Apparently business is doing well!
We have been to this park before but it was closed for renovations. We slipped past the already broken fencing to check out the playground *seen in the Weather episode of Yo Gabba Gabba!* it was awesome to have the place all to ourselves but creepy

The new landscape and pathways are lovely
This park always reminds me of Hanna-Barberra cartoons.

So, I guess we were in The Spits territory?

It may look like she slid down at a neck-breaking speed but she actually had to scoot down in super slow motion. The concrete has deteriorated over the years leaving the slides with no slide power. Good thing they are renovating.
In remembrance of the Titanic
This park is awesome but it needs a lot of TLC
Liv was too afraid to go inside the lighthouse, I don’t blame her
That’s SAN Gabriel, not SAD!

We headed home and had dinner before heading back out for the Nela Art Walk. We checked out a few spots and saw our friend at Matters of Space but the art has been disappointing for the last 2 months. Fewer people showed up and less galleries were open and the biggest attraction for the walk, an enormous art gallery/warehouse, has been closed. I hope they didn’t go out of business.

This former art gallery is a soon to be a Curio shop called Pop-Hop

Aimee has been wanting to check out this cute Vintage store Urchin
The Highland Cafe is now open and it was pretty packed inside. They are serving breakfast and lunch. I still love Cafe de Leche.

Lovely abandoned real estate office
I almost bought this dress from Mi Vida for Liv, maybe for school shopping.

Boo for being closed!

I love the interior of this place

Metal band at the Circa Studios

As we were leaving we heard about 5 bands performing. I hate to say it, but the walk has lost it’s charm since the first time we went. I guess we have officially worn it out. It could also be most folks were out of town at Coachella and hopefully it will pick up again in the summer months.

This morning Liv did something I used to do all the time as a kid.

It was just nice and warm enough for playing in the sprinklers. That’s how you roll when you don’t have a pool. Now it’s naptime. Taa-tah lovelies!

Playdate with Kieran

We went over to Terry & Morgan’s stellar house for a playdate and then pizza at The Capri. Their house is incredible! They have gorgeous mid-century modern furniture, beautiful views and amazing artwork *I was nerding out, but trying to play it cool*. Olivia had a blast playing on the slide and in Kieran’s truck. I think it would be a good investment to find Liv a slide for the backyard.

I LOVE their house!!
Our house is on the other side of this hill

Tag! You’re it.
Doing secret kid stuff
Kieran’s room was enormous. He had so much room to play and his toys were all organized and had a proper place.
Sweet Lew, she is so great with the kids *she totally reminds me of Nana from Peter Pan*
They have an authentic Banksy piece *so freakin’ jealous*

The food was good but they didn’t impress us with the decor
Boo, blurry camera sucks!

Terry had my back with her camera

Best Bananas Foster Ever! I have to try to make this at home

Kieran is such a lovely little boy
Race time!!

We had such a fun time. They are so cool, I can’t wait to try more new places with them. Thanks so much for the awesome playdate/dinner!!!

HPK…Highland Park Kitchen

Tonight we tried out a new restaurant that opened on York with Story & Chris.

The name needs some punch, it’s pretty ho-hum. I sorta preferred their original Los Lobos Cafe concept. I found the place to be too casual to be a high end restaurant yet the wall of bench seating were cute just not intimate enough. We had an early reservation but it wasn’t long before all the tables were full. It also was pretty packed due to tonight being the Nela art walk. We had tapas and drinks. I ordered a yummy mushroom and bleu cheese filet. Antz had the rosemary chicken. Olivia had mac and cheese *the hostess brought her some raisins which she ate like candy* but spend a great deal of dinner cracking up at Chris. She had a meltdown moment while we were trying to eat so this lovely older woman asked to hold Liv to calm her down. It must have done the trick cause they became friends and Liv hung with her while we ate. We were filled in on their trip to New Zealand but I was disappointed to hear they didn’t spot one penguin! It was a good time but they were understaffed and the credit card system was down so our waitress had to run our credit card manually *which sucked*. I would go back for drinks with friends but Maximillianos is my go-to spot for HP. We walked through a few galleries for the art show but nothing was that great to keep us out so we stopped by Cafe de Leche for coffee and walked to our house. We watched TV for a few hours and my face is still hurting from laughing at Aziz Ansari’s stand-up show and a bizarre Portlandia episode.

Yet another awesome restaurant opening a few blocks from our house, Yay for gentrification!!!
I had a pomergrante mojito, pretty delish!
Lovely, toothy grin

Lar & Har sneaking a sip of Antz Jack and Coke, naughty dragon!
Olivia kept throwing Larry & Harry so S & C were comforting them.
Finally they took shelter on Chris’s shoulder for safety
Story’s truffle mac & cheese
My filet…yummers but why no potato?
Antz rosemary chicken, pretty tasty
Liv’s new friend, Karen *who was extremely sweet but random how she just came over and bebe whispered Liv Grandma-ninja style*
Olivia’s fro is completely out of control
I am getting Liv this ukelele *not the one pictured* for her birthday, I am praying she won’t break it in five minutes
Love me some nerdy glasses
I will probably regret not buying these rad 80’s flip shades, like fer sure!

Tomorrow we are going to a farmers market and then playdate at Kieran’s house, FUN!! Goodnights
