Happy Birthday Lizzie!

My birthday is always a whirlwind of radness, drinks and fun. My birthday also coincides with the first day of Spring and International day of Happiness. We took a pre-birthday trip to the beach on Wednesday. The weather was nice but the water was ice cold. Of course that didn’t stop our beach babe from running in.

Showing off her new boogie board

Antz took the day off on Thursday and took me to see Grand Budapest Hotel.

Wes Anderson is my favorite modern day director. His distinct style is visually beautiful. I’m so happy Grand Budapest Hotel came out the week of my birthday because it was such a treat to see. I highly recommend seeing it at Hollywood Arclight so you can check out the incredible model of the hotel in the lobby. Wes Anderson, Sofia Coppola and P.T. Anderson are so talented and amazing. I know they are pretty formulaic in their films and he often uses the same cast but it never bores me. I fell in love with Grand Budapest, bravo!

So, we picked up the kid from school and stopped by the W hotel in Hollywood.

We had a pose off
It was too early for drinks but we will return

Thanks Liv & Antz for making my birthday so rad!
Wait, lemme check out this fabulous face first! #supermodel

So after that we went for a yummy lunch and headed home for a nap. That evening Aimee came over with birthday cake, a lovely gift and champagne.

My favorite ice cream cake!!
My BFF is rad!! I love you Aimee
My pretty Crosley record player

I’ve been wanting this beauty for months! Antz wasn’t so thrilled about me putting it on this tiny table as it teetered over the side so he surprised me today with a proper place to keep it. My next project is collecting my favorite artists on vinyl. So far I have;

Björk – Biophilia
Lana del Rey – Born to Die
Radiohead – In Rainbows

I am hoping to add;

Björk – Greatest Hits
Tom Waits – Rain Dogs
Michael Jackson – Thriller *for Liv*
Joanna Newsom – Milk Eyed Mender

I’ll show you the rest of the room once we finished putting everything away. Needless to say, I’m a one happy happy thirty-something!!

Palms Place Part Two

We had so much fun in Vegas. We had a steady routine of eating, taking magnificent showers, drinking, napping, gambling, eating again, going to the spa and sleeping. Antz and I did pretty good on the roulette tables, the dealers were funny and sweet. They remembered us every time we would come by. I had such a good time in the condo, the endless closet space, the floor to ceiling panoramic views, the vanity…swoon! I am not even a big fan of Las Vegas but owning that condo would be sweet. I could only wish to have that kind of space in our house. Photos don’t do it justice but I had a dorky photo shoot in the whirlpool tub. My Mom and I had a fantastic spa day. Antz and Liv went to Circus Circus and we met up for lunch at Simon Restaurant for sushi. We took a tour of Palms Place and all the amenities and pretty much stayed at the resort the whole time, there’s a movie theater, food court, tons of restaurants and a condo-only pool *so much better than the hotel’s pool which is full of obnoxious, drunk frat boys* Here’s some more photos in no particular order because I can’t remember when I took them. Side effects of Vegas; memory loss and all my clothes smell like smoke.

Don’t hate on my Mom’s Ninja turtle pants and wedge sneakers
Two shower heads and a rainhead, the shower was so big I couldn’t fit it all in one photo!
I wish I could have filled the tub with skittles

Christmas as Palms Place

Hello from Sin City!! We’re spending some family time at our favorite place, The Palms. This time we are staying in a one bedroom condo, with a kitchen!

So I guess Beiber is in the building?
Full fridge, cooktop, dishwasher, microwave beats a few cups and an ice bucket!
The first thing Liv did was take a bath, so rad with jets too!

You know what totally normal folks do in hotel rooms, don’t ya? Somersault Olympics!!

After years of staying in hotels, nothing impresses me other than good bedding and a huge, wonderful bathroom. This condo has two bathrooms
This shower is heaven, there’s three showerheads

How’s your holidays going? I am hoping to have my Christmas gift list finished by Christmas Eve but today is spa day so don’t hold me to it.

Happy Birthday Lizzie Part Three *Finale*

The last day at the Standard hotel was super fun. We had breakfast at the 24/7 Restaurant and took photos everywhere I could with my Geronimo balloon. We picked up Liv and went to Handsome Roasters Coffee for some major handsomeness. We had lunch at Wurstküche and I picked up some Tattly tattoos from Poketo *I love that store*. It was a most spectacular birthday. I am so happy happy.

My iphone doesn’t photograph well how bright and cheery this restaurant really is.
I don’t know why I look so mean, that french toast was heaven

PHOTO BOMB TIME!!
Word!
Would you believe me if I told you I can play What’s New Pussycat? by Tom Jones on the organ? Me neither!

I went ape shit… they had an actual working telephone booth!! I love those things. I had to make an important phone call.

The building was super old and 70’s retro decorated. We loved it!

We didn’t even mind the world’s slowest elevator… that much.

 Marais chairs!!

They seem to follow me everywhere I go. There were some stools in Jihan’s studio space and at the rooftop bar. It must be a sign I will have some of my own. It’s hard to choose plain old white when they look so FAB in yellow!

Another amazing birthday under this thirty six-*oh man, I’m growing so many gray hairs* year old’s belt! Merci to everyone who sent me well wishes! Extra hugs and kisses to my Bestie, Aimee and the world’s greatest husband, Antz! XOXO

The End

Happy Birthday Lizzie Part Two

The Standard Downtown has always been a fun place for us to have a drink. I actually spent my 33rd birthday at the Standard rooftop bar *whilst 5 months preggers* Yet this time, I was ready to drink like an adult *something I haven’t done since 2009* so we made a night of it.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up! Debauchery ensued, dead hookers, I’m sure there was a midget involved…that’s all I can remember. Here’s my photographic evidence *which will be held admissible*

Don’t mind me, just checking in with my giant balloon friend here!
Upgrade to a corner room suite… Happy Happy Birthday to me!!

I’m not kidding, I really love my balloon. Smoochies!

We worked up an appetite so we ordered some room service.

I had the yummiest grilled brie and bleu cheese sandwich and portebello mushroom fries with chipotle aioli sauce…sooo good! Antz had a manly bacon burger with swiss cheese and herb fries.

Time for some R&R

Later my BFF, Aimee arrived. She gave me another gift *she paid for me to get gel nails mani and a pedi* on Tuesday.

We got our nails done on seperate days and still ended up getting the same color polish. BFF Power to the max!

She also got me an Anthropologie gift card because she knows I love that place more than anything and she loves me. I can’t wait till tomorrow when I go to get my new watch! I was all set to hit the sack cause I was tired but Aimee and Antz were ready to head upstairs for some drinks at the bar. I got dolled up and up we went.

Va-va-vroom!
*Insert Beyonce song here*
I tried to convince them that my balloon wanted to go too but they *wisely* told me to leave it in the room in case it popped or got ruined.
Me & my rad Bestie

The rest of the evening is a bit of a blur. I do remember how wonderful the French 77 drinks were and it was our bartender’s birthday too. We cheers/danced the night a way and the DJ was really awesome. He played our song from Silence of Lambs and who doesn’t love that shit?! I am just happy I didn’t jump in the pool like I planned to do because I would have ruined my new shoes *and my blowout*.

I love these waterbed pods, I really could live in one
Draaaaaaanks!
I am sure I was channeling my inner Hannah Horvath here
Running across the street to the Library Bar

That’s all I have, my camera was full…we chased Antz around the hotel and ordered room service again. It was a celebration bitches!!

Our Thursday was just as fun, find out what happens next in the riveting finale of Happy Birthday Lizzie!

Parisian Apartments

As always, I am dreaming of Paris. We are planning our dates for our trip next year, the end of May and most of June. I have been working on our itinerary for awhile now and I’m trying to take advantage of every day we are in Europe. Since we are flying into London, we will spend a few days there, then take the train to Paris. We will be taking Liv to Disneyland Paris for her 4th birthday and squeezing in a day trip to Versailles and Amsterdam. I am having the hardest time finding the perfect Parisian apartment to rent. Well actually, I found my dream apartment but it’s not available for the time we’ll need it.

Paris 1 Bedroom apartment - apartment layout (PA-4192)
It has a weird layout

I fell in love with this lovely place but it’s only available for a monthly rental and we only need it for 2 weeks. We are going to Italy for a weekend and visiting my dear friend Aura in Finland for 3 days so the apartment would be empty for several days. Unfortunately, it’s over my budget.

Here is my alternative:

Notre Dame Left Bank La Grange Livingroom
Notre Dame Left Bank La Grange Diningroom
Notre Dame Left Bank : Balcony
Notre Dame floor plan
This is the quintessential Parisian apartment

I know you are thinking, that is a gorgeous apartment, what’s the problem? Well, this apartment costs the same to rent for one week what other apartments cost for 2 weeks. It’s also in a building with a Chinese restaurant located on the first floor. Go ahead and call me picky but I can’t imagine spending muggy June in an rental that smells like chow mein all day. Antz would probably enjoy the scent of food all day.
My dream apartment may still an option if we can get an invite to the Diner en Blanc. We would extend our stay for an extra week since the diner is usually held on the third Thursday in June.

I would love to attend during our trip, it looks so fun!

I may have found a loophole to get invited. By attending the Diner en Blanc in Los Angeles this year, we become members, which makes us eligible to attend a diner anywhere in the world. I registered for LA’s diner but I’m on the 3rd waiting list, so we’ll see in a few months if I get an invite *they only send them out 48 hours before the event*

I’m looking on airbnb but so far no luck. I have a long list of criteria for my Parisian apartment:

Higher floor with a view of the city
Elevator
Flooded with sunlight
7th Arrondissement
Not too noisy an area but plenty of shops in walking distance
Haussmanian building
Parquet or at least hardwood floors
Floor to ceiling french windows
Preferably a balcony or at least a window I can sit by and people watch
Modern kitchen with a dishwasher
Washer/dryer
Shower *you would be surprised how many apartments don’t have them*
Pretty furniture
Queen size bed
2000 or less euros a week

I know, I’m a nightmare, I will be searching forever.

Au Revoir!

The Suite Life

The Palms has raised the bar for my jet-setting. The first time Antz and I went to Vegas was way back in 1998 when I turned 21. We stayed at the freaking gross Motel 6, a block from the Tropicana. We couldn’t even afford the crappiest hotel on the strip. Now around about a dozen stays later, I don’t know if I can go back to a lousy standard hotel room. I am all about the sweets suites!! It’s like having your first mani/pedi, there’s no way you’ll want to do your own nails again, ever! Antz and I agree, we could live there. Maybe one day we could have a lovely vacation condo at Palms Place.

Our Salon Suite

Fantasy Tower Salon Suite Living Room

Ah, the pleasures of a whirlpool jet tub, a separate loo and shower in a bathroom the size of our living room. I already miss the fantastic water pressure at the hotel *I took about 5 showers in 24 hours*

Then the bed…SHEER HEAVEN!

Shouldn’t all bathrooms have tellys in them?

I know it’s lame to get excited over a toilet but a Toto toilet is the créme de la créme of toilet comfort!
The jets made her bubbles go ba-nay-nays!

Pretty awesome vending machine, Dr Dre Beats headphones, Stila makeup sets, land of random products.
I really wanted this guy!
Sadly the pool was closed for a private event

BreakFEAST!!

It was hot as blazes, like 115°!!
Still my fave place in Vegas. Hip, young crowd, few douchebags, and even fewer obnoxious tourists and super nice and friendly staff.

Liv’s 2nd Birthday Rainbow Party

When I say we had a RAINBOW party, I’m serious!! The Saguaro went above and beyond my expectations. As we were checking in, Andrew casually asked me if we were celebrating any special event. I went on and on about Liv’s rainbow themed birthday party and showed him all my props and decor. He asked me if she liked anything in particular so I said Liv is obsessed with Peter Pan. Do you wanna know he stopped by our room with a gift for Olivia from the Disney Store! I was so excited I completely forgot to take photos. My Mom was taking photos with our old Nikon, but of course they turned out blurry and lame. The weather was scorching, 110 – 106 degrees!! However Antz was happy lounging in our air-conditioned room. We had a blast, I hope to return to the lovely Saguaro again soon. It’s definitely one of my favorite hotels.

We are super stoked about Liv turning two!!

Blowing out her candles
I started the trip with a major whoopsie, on the freeway I realized I
forgot the spatula to frost the cake but no big deal, we stopped at
Marshall’s to meet my Mom on the way to PS and so I decided to buy a
cheap icing knife. Then when I go to find my wallet, guess who left it *with all our cash* at home?  D’OH! I had to drive all the way back home *1 hour roundtrip* to pick it up. We didn’t get back on the road until 2:45, Boo! We
arrived in Palm Springs a little after 4pm. This delay threw off my
entire schedule so we didn’t finish decorating the room until 6pm. My
Godfather Leon, who lives in Rancho Mirage, came over to join us for
cake and watched Liv open her presents. We finally went to dinner at
9:30. We devoured sushi and sake. My Mom spent the night since it was so
late. Liv received so many lovely gifts *thanks everyone!* and she ate her fill of rainbow cake *a little too much*
Enough talk, it’s time for the famous photobomb. Enjoy!!

The Saguaro is a lovely, colorful, fun hotel.

So I went through all that trouble to find a giant number 2 silver balloon. Guess what? That shit popped on the drive to PS in my Mom’s car. BOO!! Super lame. I still have some more balloons leftover that we didn’t take because we didn’t have any room in the car. All that survived was this lousy silver star but Liv enjoyed playing with it.

Oy! Icing the cake was a major pain in the ass. Even though I had my magic spatula, it didn’t turn out like I expected at all.

Liv loved it nonetheless
The birthday book is a keepsake we fill out every year. Next year we’ll be throwing her first party at home, I’m already planning. Stop looking at me crazy, Antz!!

Farewell Saguaro, I’ll miss you!

So we headed over to the hipster Ace.
It’s not as nice as I thought it would be. It’s sort of run down and
rustic. I like taxidermy and junk but I prefer clean, modern hotels. I
would definitely eat at the King’s Highway diner and I love their retro photo booth.
The Ace didn’t do it for me like my rainbow-licious Saguaro.

Next time I return I must ride a pink Vespa!
Our photos turned out BANAYNAYS!!
She was knocked out and sweaty, haha!

Happy Happy Birthday to the raddest little girl ever. Je t’aime beau!

Rainbow Bright

I am taking the rainbow theme to the extreme! The Saguaro is my inspiration. Such a lovely, colorful hotel.

I think this place is giving the W a run for it’s money

I’m hoping for a pink room

Pretty stoked to taste the tequila!!

I wanted to make a banner for Liv and I loved this one made by Liz Stanley at Momtastic. I made my hearts a little bigger but I love how my guy turned out. This was one of my first stress-free craft projects, I didn’t hurt myself or stay up all night cursing, it was really fun to just sew and be creative.

Luckily I had all the right colors in my felt bin
Fits perfectly on our mantle *although Liv keeps trying to pull it down*

My next project is making these rainbow streamers. I picked up really cute wrapping paper from Paper Source today. Aimee just ordered her gift for Olivia…

Kickboard Mini Scooter

SUPER FABULOUS!! I know Liv will love it *I sure want to use it*. I am looking for an equally fantastic helmet but we have to take her in-store to try them on. I just ordered her presents online which I’m going to try to keep secret *so excited about how darling they are*. Back in the day our parents had it so easy, all they had to do was let us watch a half an hour of TV and we would ask for whatever was in the commercials and that’s what we got. Of course I had a Rainbow Brite doll!

Who knew the Poltergiest girl was in this commercial?

One Month to go!

How could it be that in 31 days Liv will be 2 years old? Now that it’s getting down to the wire, I am thinking maybe the tram isn’t the best option for a 2 year old. I still want to go to Palm Springs but I only have one thing I want to do in 100 degree heat…swim! I found this incredible hotel over at Cakies so of course now I want to book it.

The Saguaro Hotel

It’s less expensive than the Ace but has just as much character. The pool looks awesome and we can have a pool party for Liv. I am dying to make a rainbow cake for her birthday but we will go to dinner out there.

Rainbow cake Rainbow cake Rainbow cake
so pretty!

It helps The Saguaro is having a 25% off sale for the next 2 days too. I also have to book our cabin for Trevor and Jessica’s wedding in December. All this hotel booking but no Hawaii *sads*
