Only Me!!

Why does this happen to me?? I spent weeks going back and forth debating on whether to try to wait it out and see if our friends could hook us up with Yo Gabba Gabba Live! tickets because all the front row seats/VIP party package tickets were sold out. Last month, I finally commited to getting Orchestra Row P tickets which were…meh!

I was just happy to have the tickets and I was able to use my American Express points to get a big discount on the tix. So I was content, low and behold, today I get an email from Amex with tickets *VIP party package tickets 5 rows from the stage in the Orchestra Pit section, dead center!!* for sale for Saturday, November 27th 11am show!! GAH, BLAST!! This ALWAYS happens to me. I jump the gun and get something with plenty of time then something better comes along. I wait until the last minute, I end up scrambling or paying too much for tickets *my first Bjork show in LA* Now, I want to buy the better seats *the VIP package includes a photo with the characters and that’s what I really want* but they are $100 each more than the ones I already have. I posted it on my facebook and no takers yet. This sucks, of course Antz is giving me the side-eye and saying just use the ones we have and spend that $200 on Christmas gifts for Liv but I have to get photos with the characters. I posted an ad on craigslist but I see a ton of tix for my same show for the same amount so it doesn’t seem to be high demand. GRRR!!

*awww, I miss my Ralph Wiggum tee, it got ruined in the laundry*

Day #7….I am thankful for my best friend in the whole world *besides Antz & my Mum* Aimee!! Every Thursday has been super fun and today we laughed all day long. I am so happy Liv gets to spend so much time with her GodMommy. We went to Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters *looking for pretty things for Aimee’s apartment* She wore her in the BabyHawk and everyone thought Liv was her daughter. She is a super rad, fantastic GodMommy. I love my BFF, we are going on 11 years together

Liv is missing a shoe because she was eating it all morning. Every second we saw her with her shoe in her mouth, those shoes are like her crack!!

I almost, sure I’ll regret this later, bought this teapot, I have wanted a prissy teaset since we bought our house and this one was $29.99!!

Say hello to Mommy’s new glasses!
Olivia needs this hat!

Me likey Anthro Bonjour plates

I LOVE this tree ornament, this is exactly what I said when I saw the email about the Yo Gabba Gabba tickets!
Liz + Aimee = NERDS!!

I love you Aimee!!!

It’s BROBEE!!

I am so freaking excited about Olivia’s Yo Gabba Gabba outfit. I wanted to buy the shirt and the tutu from Etsy but the chick from The Girly Tutu no longer sold the Brobee shirt, so I just bought the tutu and we bought felt to make our own Brobee shirt. Antz made it this morning and it came out STELLAR!! I think it’s better than the one I was gonna buy…

Finshed result *hand sewn*
Happy Happy girl!!

Day #6….This makes me SUPER THANKFUL I have such a creative, genius husband. I would have paid $18 bucks for that shirt when we ended up paying $3.14 in felt, 2 hours of his time and $18 for the tutu. LOVE IT!!

Liv is 23 weeks today!!

We’re going to Giggle *my fave baby store* and getting lunch. We may buy her Beaba Babycook today too. Got to run, laters lovelies!

Brrr, it’s cold in here!

OK, I am not fond of this actual winter weather we are having. Just the other day it was sunny and hot and now it’s windy and freezing cold. I am under 2 blankets, in my warm PJs with a scarf and I have the heat blasting and I’m still cold! Tonight we played volleyball with Dion & Evelyn. It was fun but I am mega bummed because my push present ring broke. *sads* We are going tomorrow to see if I can have it soldered back together. I didn’t play as hard as I usually do but I am lacking energy after spending the last week up all night feeding Liv. Tonight is her experimental night to see if feeding her solids will help her STTN. I cant believe she’s eating solids, she’s doing everything so early…

Liv’s Milestones

She is flying through her firsts, she has smiled, laughed, babbled, rasped, rolled-over *both ways* slept through the night *at 7 weeks*, stopped swaddling at 12 weeks, sleeps in her nursery *most of the time* at 12 weeks, sits up assisted, sits up on her own, sucks her toes, sucks her fingers, tried to crawl * she goes backwards*, holds her own bottle, reached for toys, holds toys with both hands, picks up toys/bottle on her own, tries to stand, grabs my face, buries her face in my neck, can focus on her Presidents mat, tries to turn the pages of her books, watches complete episodes of Yo Gabba Gabba! *nothing else interests her*, loves being in a pool, has petted our cat Lola *with my supervision*, said au revoir to her pacifier *to my delight* and now has had her first meal.

I thought I would get the poopy diaper of a lifetime but luckily so far things are still relatively smell-less and orangish brown *sorry, TMI*. She has been ridiculously gassy. When we went to pick her up from her Grandma’s after volleyball, she totally had the mega farts and we all blamed it on Antz!

Day #5…I am super thankful that I have been able to breastfeed exclusively since she was born and I am hoping to continue for at least a year. I was soo grossed out about bfing and I was certain something would prevent me for being able to *my own irrational fears* so I am majorly proud of sticking with it and giving Olivia the liquid gold. I am bummed that I have to pump everyday now for her rice cereal but I guess it isn’t so bad. We need to get her highchair soon but I’m waiting to see if Antz can find it on craigslist. This Saturday we are taking our junk we don’t want to LA Freecycle in Eagle Rock. Hopefully, I can sell her 0-3 clothes to a cosignment shop. OH! and I have a bunch of preggo books that I no longer need. *Yep, I read all of them!*

I feel very Hoarders!!

P.S. Anthony loves to torment me, he found this rad childrens clothing site and now I am obsessed. Why does he find the most awesomest things and there’s no prices for anything?!  I love the styles, the color palettes, I love all the clothes!! I can’t post the photos but here’s a peek…

I am swooning, I need some sleep, so far Liv hasn’t woken up…let’s keep our fingers crossed she makes it till daylight.

Today is the BIG DAY!!

And so it begins, our daughter is now on the road to independence. She had her first meal this morning and I *like a nerd* bawled like a baby. She was giving me a *Really, Mom* look. She did excellent, she was really enjoying it.

She ate the whole bowl! *greedy, like her Mum* We are buying the Beaba Babycook

and I am ordering her awesome dishware today.

I also think it’s time to get her highchair since it was hard to feed her while holding her. So today was a major milestone and I am thrilled and simeltaneously sad. I thought she would be at least 6 months old when she started solids but she has been waking up every 2-3 hours to eat at night, maybe this will help her get back to sleeping through the night.

Tomorrow Antz is taking th day off so we can shop, give Maxie a bath and then we are going to the Northridge farmers market. I hope it’s not too cold since it starts at 5. Today we are playing volleyball *YAY* after missing the last 2 weeks. I have to take Liv to her grandmother’s at 3 and try to squeeze out another bottle for tomorrow’s breakfast!

What makes you happy?

Whew, this is such a hard question for me to answer. I was just pilfering A Cup of Jo *probably the best blog on the planet* and I had to steal this post:
My dear readers, inspired by this post, I would love to ask you: What are three things that make you happy? These days, my list is: Hitchcock movies, salt-and-vinegar potato chips, and walking arm-and-arm with people (it’s like my new thing). Tell me yours!

Well, I shall try to limit mine to 3 and let me state, I am majorly bummed Jo started off with one that I would have wanted to use *I LOVE Hitchcock films!!* but great minds think alike, right?

Conan O’Brien makes me super happy. I had the privilege of going to his show back when he had the Late Show in 2000. It was the most awesome experience of my life. His guests sucked but I danced with him and he was hilarious. I first fell in love with him, in of all places, Italy. We were super jet lagged so we would wake up every morning at 4am and there was nothing to do but watch TV. Well, as you can imagine there wasn’t much English-speaking shows but for some reason, we would always catch Conan. This was back in 1997 when he was fairly new so he wouldn’t have any guests, he would interview random people at bus stops and do the most knee-slapping skits. This was back in the Triumph the Insult Comic dog, Pimpbot5000 and the Masterbating Bear days, he would make me laugh until I cried. I can honestly say, whatever mood I am in, Conan really makes me happy!!

Wedding photos always make me happy. I haven’t seen a wedding photo that hasn’t made me giddy and saying to Antz “I wish we did this at our wedding…” *he usually throws me an eye roll and says our wedding was perfect*. I adore seeing wedding ceremonies, receptions, cakes, flowers, dresses, bow ties, shoes, invitations, favors…I could go on forever. Like I previously stated, my ideal profession would be a wedding coordinator if…I could only invent a potion to repeal Bridezillas. I love thumbing through Martha Stewart Weddings, I have a ton of wedding blogs that I spend all night *forfeiting my precious sleep* reading, causing me to wish I could have a wedding every year *betrothed to Anthony of course* I just love weddings, I am that guest who cries during the ceremony, can appreciate the detail put into small things like the way a napkin is folded or the font on the place cards and I am so bummed I am out of the running for catching the bouquet!

I’m not sure how many children of the eighties remember this but there is an original Pippi Longstocking and she goes by the name of Inger Nilsson. Pippi Longstocking makes me incredibly happy. I remember watching Saturday afternoon telly at my Grandma’s house and Pippi would be on channel 5 with the worst dubbing in film history. It was soo bad, it was indecipherable! I loved seeing Pippi display her insurmountable strength and the adventures she would have with Tommy & Annika made me want to run away from home and become a pirate. I spent a pretty penny on eBay buying the entire Pippi collection *of course now I can buy the set for under $60 when I had to hunt for each indivdual DVD and bid much more than I wanted to* I am hoping one day Olivia loves Pippi as much as we do!

So many more things bring happiness to my evil posterior so I’ll throw the question out to you lovelies, what makes you spazz out and do the happy, happy, joy, joy dance? Let’s hear from you Shiny Happy People!!

PS I just found this blog and her jumps put mine to shame *and she has been to Iceland, double jealous!!* BUT, I figured out the secret to life…errr photography…a remote for my camera. *SLAPS FOREHEAD* Doh! I will be buying one tomorrow so we’ll have it in time for Disneyland next month…should I splurge on a tripod too?? Brooke is a super genuis photographer, if I had my way, I would have Sarah follow us wherever we go but she’s on new bebe, Liberty, duty till February 🙁 I am totally going to try to find a photographer to have a session in London…Antz is gonna kill me because I’m gonna bug him about it until I find someone. Love this shoot, Love the poses, I’m totally having another blog crush!!

Short & Sweet

I know how long-winded I usually am, so today I’m keeping it short & sweet. I’d like to profess my latest blog crush, Kissssing! This blog has 2 perfect elements, rad vintage photography and sweet love quotes. Isn’t it darling?

Day #4…I am totally thankful that I live in a warm climate like California. I loathe cold weather. I grew up in the desert and I am happiest in the sunshine. I am very happy that I do not have to endure snow. I will be 1,000 times much more happier when I have a pool. But today, I am thankful for good old sunny California.

28 Days of Thanks

Today I am super thankful for…my alarm system!!

I know that’s a weird thing to be thankful for but I had an unpleasant encounter yesterday that made me feel quite vunerable. I heard my doorbell ring and at first, I thought it was my gardener Jose. Yet, Jose never rings the bell as obnoxiously as it was ringing. It seemed like an emergency and it was about 5:45 close to getting dark. I saw a guy standing at our gate at the bottom of the stairs holding a clipboard. I opened the door a crack and he rudely asked me for a donation for painting numbers on our curb. *MAJOR EYE ROLL* This is an on going scam happening across Los Angeles where guys paint the numbers on your curb and then attempt to extort money from the homeowners as a “donation”. I wasn’t having it! I told him in a firm voice NO Thanks! and he says well I already painted your curb. I then said I didn’t ask you to do that. He says well didn’t you get the notification card?  I said NO! and slammed the door in disgust. I was so mad!! I called our local police department to report him and all they told me is unless he has certification from the city, he is illegally soliciting. They told me to call them again if he comes back. I thought, well he’s gone but to be safe I turned on our alarm *which I usually do after dark* and called Antz to come home immediately. He came home in 15 minutes and do you want to know that asshole came back and rang our doorbell??!! Antz went out there and said pretty much the same thing I said previously but this guy was not getting the hint. Antz asked me if I had a few dollars to get rid of him but I was adament that we weren’t giving him a dime! I called the police again and they wanted my info so they could send out an officer. Antz didn’t want to give out our info since the guy knows where we live and he seemed really aggressive. *SO LAME* This is reason number #1,248 of how badly I want to move. Typically besides my savage neighbors across the street, our area is moderately safe. We live in a college town and there is generification happening in Highland Park *which is why we moved there, everyone told us the neighborhood was “up and coming”. There are 2 awesome bars, a couple of art galleries and an Argentinian coffee shop where all the hipsters hang out in front of alll day with their indie haircuts, super expensive designer dogs, cigarette-chain smoking and bike riding. On our side of my street, we are middle class, family-oriented, respectful neighbors. I called both neighbors on the sides of us to warn them about the guy but neither were home at the time. Worst of all, we were leaving to go to Apple Valley *where I currently am* so we felt uneasy loading the car up because we didn’t want the guy to see we were going out of town. So I am super annoyed, super preturbed that the police could care less and super thankful that we have an alarm on our house. Honestly I couldn’t sleep without that added security. Our house is already Fort. Knox with 1,000 watt motion lights, our huge locked gate and ADT stickers on every window. My only concern is having our house tagged on. Anywhere in LA grafiti is a huge problem and our neighbors on the right of us had their brand new retaining wall written on just months after having it installed. I would go ape-shit if someone wrote on our lovely retaining wall *we do not have the paint to match it*. Our first month in our new house someone wrote on our garage walls and I called the city to have someone come out and paint over it but they did a sloppy, half-ass job, we may as well have painted it ourselves. So I am crossing my fingers, rubbing rabbit’s feet and saying little prayers that when we get home tomorrow our house is safe and sound and that guy finds some other suckers to extort. Thanks for the peace of mind ADT…in a world full of cretins!

Mix Tape Fridays Vol. 5

Welcome to another Mix Tape Friday *condensed version*. I know it’s been on hiatus but I am stoked to share this week’s tunes!

I’ve been rockin out to a bunch of CDs *so very old school* in my car since my iphone car adapter died. I have brought out old stuff I haven’t heard in years and this first one is an old favorite of mine. I actually saw him live for my birthday at the Los Feliz Derby *sadly, it’s closed since* I even scored his signature on a martini glass. I have always fantasized of hiring him to play at a party at our house but his $10,000 fee has put a screeching halt to that becoming a reality. I am not a huge System of a Down fan but I love the way Dick does it.

“Chop Suey” Richard Cheese

The next band is pretty awesome *I know I say that about every band* but we saw them open for Radiohead in San Diego. I love weirdos and these guys fit the bill! I also love obscure songs *hence my love for Björk* sorry the sound sucks so bad but this is the actual footage from the concert, the album version is way better sounding!

“Panda Panda Panda” Deerhoof

At the concert

The next is a oldie but super special to me. I remember being 9 years old and going on tour with my Mom in the summer of 1986. I was used to life on the road by then but this time I was allowed on stage *I ran out picking up the flowers and gifts fans threw on stage for Stevie* it was surreal. It felt like a million people were in the audience. I have been hearing this song at a bunch of places lately and it always reminds me of my Mommy. She was a typical Mom, taking me to ballet class, feeding the dog and helping me with my homework yet she had another persona, on stage she was a rock star. Doing what she was born to do, the only percussionist in an industry dominated by men and still she never missed one of my volleyball games. I have no idea how she did it but I am so proud of my rock star Mommy. Check out her bitchin 80’s style in the intro of this video.

“Stand Back” Stevie Nicks

Me *wearing my Mommy’s vest* backstage
My next choice is an ATF *all-time-favorite*. I first heard this song on KCRW in 1998 and I immediately went to Aron’s Record store *the best CD store in Hollywood that no longer exists* and bought the CD! I cannot describe how much I have played this song. It was my ringtone on my cell at one point. The bass on the song is the best and I love the video *I adore polar bears*. This song is a close runner up to my most favorite Björk song ever which I will be featuring soon. So, please enjoy the greatest singer on planet Earth!!
“Hunter” Björk

And now the random song of the week. Like I said, I’ve been forced to listen to CDs in my car and I have a soundtrack I’ve been playing all week. I have a strong devotion to the works of Mr Stanley Kubrick, one of his most popular and controversial films is A Clockwork Orange. What makes this film so brilliant is the soundtrack which I have been playing non-stop. I love this particular composer, Wendy Carlos, a transsexual who is similar to the Chemical Brothers *another band I heart* I am not a huge fan of music from the 70’s but the fusion of classical with electronica is the tits!!
“The Funeral of Queen Mary” Wendy Carlos

Disclaimer: I am, indeed a giant nerd!!

This little piggy went to market

Here’s a little piggy at the market…

That is one wide rump!!

I look like a freakin’ giant! Today Aimee and I went shopping for Liv’s solids. *sads* Why are we nerds and we all wore white dresses today *totally forgot to take a pic of our trio 🙁 * We went to Whole Foods *mega expensive* and it took me forever to choose some organic rice cereal. I was walking around with giant question marks floating over my head. It’s a stressing decision, I knew it had to be a single grain and organic but no idea which brand would be best.

They had some pretty sweet baby stuff but my wallet is on lockdown for the moment so I can get everything on Liv’s Christmas Wishlist
Aimee & Liv
Here’s the winner, the packaging was almost too convincing. It may has well said unless you wanna feed your kid plastic, jizzed on, chemically processed shit, then buy our rice cereal, our shit is THE BEST!!
Umm ok hippies, natural art supplies…a bit much and a bit too pricey!!

So I bought her food but we won’t be trying it until Sunday when we get back from my Mom’s house. I also picked up some awesome flowers but I’m too lazy to go take a pic of them so you’ll  have to wait until tomorrow. We went to our weekly hangout, Target *of course* and I spent waaay too much money *I swear on a stack of bibles, I only bought necessities* but I used coupons and I was happy, happy because I saved like $7 on detergent and diapers *yay me* We were burning up so we got Jamba Juice. Next week we are going couch shopping for Aimee at Urban Outfitters. I think we may have to wait until Antz gets off since I’m not carrying a couch and we need to borrow his truck.

Tuesday our girl turned 5 months!! I cannot take her growing up anymore. I need to find a serum that will keep her little!

I love that she can fit her Vans now. Gotta get her Brobee Vans

29 Days of Thanks

Day #2…I am thankful for my amazing Mum. As you know, I am an only child but what you may not know, my Mommy is also an only child. We have a super close tiny family *my Mom is a single parent by choice* My Mom and I are BFFs. She tells me the truth even when it’s brutal but I appreciate that she has my back like no other. She totally supports my decisions, even when she doesn’t agree with them. I can call her any time of day for advice and she’ll give me wisdom that is invaluable. My Mom is an incredible person, I can’t even begin to list all her achievements but she is definitely in my Hall-of-Fame.

I am super thankful for my Mommy, I love you!!
