2013: Looking Back

Days, weeks and years are really warp speed ever since Liv was born. It’s ridiculous how much fun we are having with this kid. Even her worst days are fantastic because she cuddles up to us and says “I’m sorry I was bad and says I love you Mommy and Daddy.

Feels like yesterday she was this small

When I hear that, I’m done. I love her so much I could die. I never knew love like this which makes me love so hard and appreciate every one else in my life so much more *Antz, My Mom, Maria, Debra, her Godparents: Aimee, Leslie & Stephen* They are so supportive of us and I feel forever indebted to my family for putting up with my annoying antics. Thank you for a terrific year guys!

*and now I’m in tears!*

Anyway…my point is, this has really been an awesome year. I didn’t get to blog as much as I would have liked due to ongoing technical issues but I would love being able to look back at the highlights of the year.

The best & raddest of 2013

I started off the new year with a list of non-resolutions

I was in full-steam ahead in kitchen planning mode

Liv went to her first birthday party of the year…

…which turned into going to a birthday party every single weekend for the entire year!

We took Liv to an open casting call for kid models at American Apparel.

Unfortunately, we didn’t hear any feedback but it was good experience

I had a delightful Valentine’s Day thanks to my lovely husband.

Almost three years later, I finally made a video of Olivia’s birth. *go ahead and click, there’s no gross parts*

Aimee & I dorked out on several occasions.

Our tribute to our dirty Uncle Terry

We celebrated our seven year house-anniversary and I gave an extensive tour of the house before we moved in.

I dragged my engaged friend Jes to the wedding event, The Cream and we had a blast!

I bitched, moaned and complained about our kitchen, A LOT!

I celebrated my 36th birthday in such an epic way, it was posted in one, two, three parts.

After seven years of whining, I finally put my money where my mouth was and we began our kitchen renovation.

Liv and I were a part of the 100 portrait project by Marcello Ambritz.

My Mom made her big screen debut in the documentary Sample This. I’m so proud of her!

Liv started soccer class. She’s a natural!

Our little kitchen was featured on The Kitchn!

I changed my blog’s blogspot address!

Grammy Bobbye taught drum class for Liv’s class

Liv vamped out for Halloween.

She really got into character, she loves being a vampire!

We went Trick or treating on spooky Carroll Avenue

The house where Thriller was filmed
We didn’t get murdered by the scariest Micheal Myers dude ever!

Liv made two major discoveries this year, Pippi Longstocking *she loves the 1970’s movies* my favorite as a kid!

This rad costume was a gift from my friend Aura and she borrowed her Dad’s shoes.

…and Michael Jackson. Thriller is seriously her jam!! *We are very proud of her awesome taste* The house on Carroll Avenue sparked her obsession with Thriller. She loves to watch the full-length video and she wants to be the werewolf “Michael” for Halloween next year. She’s totally not afraid and she says it’s just makeup Mommy.

I got a new car.

My Bestie is moving into my neighborhood!!! YAY!!

I co-hosted a RAD baby shower for my good friends Story & Chris *and made the best cheese platter and spa water ever*

We met Tunameltsmyheart and he really did!!

We went to Liv’s school Winter Solstice.

We took silly holiday photos at Poketo.

 Santa paid Olivia a visit.

I had a pretty fabulous year. The highlight of it would be this lady here.

Always laughing, eating her fingerberries

And lastly, here’s a video of my favorite Instagram photos of 2013.

Thank you for stopping by Violently Happy. I wish you all a very stellar & Happy 2014!

P.S. I start my new ecourses in January! I’m hoping to post about my 2014 goals in a fancy way.

Oh, Hi from Ojai!

Seems like we’ve driven in every possible direction within two hours of Los Angeles. Antz and I are both LA natives and we’ve been together for seventeen years so it definitely feels like we’ve been there, done that. When we try to find something new and fun to do, I am always at a loss. Lately, we have been relying on Red Tricycle for family fun ideas. So far, I’m putting together a list of things we have yet to do with Liv so when we get stumped, we can refer to it. Yesterday was a lovely day and we didn’t want to stay cooped up in the house so we hopped in the car and hit the 101 freeway. I haven’t been to Ojai since I was a kid so it felt new to me. Liv napped during the drive there and most of the ride home so we were happy since we had late night dinner plans with her Padrinos. We hit some traffic but got there within an hour and forty five minutes. We picked a place at random for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. Ojai is close to Ventura and a very quaint town. Definitely a worthy quick road trip. I can’t wait to take a trip to Portland, San Francisco and Austin.

Once again my Time Machine has failed me. I’m gonna call Apple manana to get it working. So all I have are these few photos from my phone. It’s such a recurring joke about me and machines. So lame.

Olivia’s Grammy gave her an ipod shuffle for Christmas so Liv will stop asking to listen to Thriller a million times. The funny thing is, she now sings Thriller at the top of her lungs! I put a bunch of rad songs on her shuffle but she only listens to Thriller and Shake Senora.

She was pretty stoked about her Disneyland goblet at the restaurant

My tasty turkey sandwich
After lunch we walked across the street to a very cute park

Thanks Ojai, you were fun!

Lizzie’s Christmas Wishlist 2013

I love that I caught Flick with his tongue stuck to the pole
This was The Little Mermaid’s Christmas. Liv has moved on from Cinderella, it’s all about Ariel!

Palms Place Part Two

We had so much fun in Vegas. We had a steady routine of eating, taking magnificent showers, drinking, napping, gambling, eating again, going to the spa and sleeping. Antz and I did pretty good on the roulette tables, the dealers were funny and sweet. They remembered us every time we would come by. I had such a good time in the condo, the endless closet space, the floor to ceiling panoramic views, the vanity…swoon! I am not even a big fan of Las Vegas but owning that condo would be sweet. I could only wish to have that kind of space in our house. Photos don’t do it justice but I had a dorky photo shoot in the whirlpool tub. My Mom and I had a fantastic spa day. Antz and Liv went to Circus Circus and we met up for lunch at Simon Restaurant for sushi. We took a tour of Palms Place and all the amenities and pretty much stayed at the resort the whole time, there’s a movie theater, food court, tons of restaurants and a condo-only pool *so much better than the hotel’s pool which is full of obnoxious, drunk frat boys* Here’s some more photos in no particular order because I can’t remember when I took them. Side effects of Vegas; memory loss and all my clothes smell like smoke.

Don’t hate on my Mom’s Ninja turtle pants and wedge sneakers
Two shower heads and a rainhead, the shower was so big I couldn’t fit it all in one photo!
I wish I could have filled the tub with skittles
Guess who crashed my photoshoot?
What a Boozer!

Liv must have taken 32 baths
Liv scored this mask at Circus Circus and refused to take it off
Room service, Best fucking filet mignon cobb salad of my life!!

We spent half our time in elevators!

Smell ya later Vegas!

Christmas as Palms Place

Hello from Sin City!! We’re spending some family time at our favorite place, The Palms. This time we are staying in a one bedroom condo, with a kitchen!

So I guess Beiber is in the building?
Full fridge, cooktop, dishwasher, microwave beats a few cups and an ice bucket!
The first thing Liv did was take a bath, so rad with jets too!

You know what totally normal folks do in hotel rooms, don’t ya? Somersault Olympics!!

05eJC7 on Make A Gif, Animated Gifs
After years of staying in hotels, nothing impresses me other than good bedding and a huge, wonderful bathroom. This condo has two bathrooms
This shower is heaven, there’s three showerheads
I could live here!

How’s your holidays going? I am hoping to have my Christmas gift list finished by Christmas Eve but today is spa day so don’t hold me to it.

Olivia’s Christmas Show

Jingle Bells, kids crying on stage, parents frantically taking photos of their kids, Santa hats and handmade costumes…yep all those delightful memories of school holiday performances.

Allow me to geek out over my new lovely dress first. It’s fitted/cut like a 1950’s cocktail dress so much so, I felt like I needed a martini, a Phillip Morris cigarette & gloves and a silly hat á la Lucy Ricardo. The best part of all are the pockets! All dresses, skirts, every single article of clothing needs pockets. I am so freaking excited about finally having pockets on a dress.

Dress from ModCloth, Bag from Target, Furry pouf and Ciao barrette from Ban.do and shoes from Seychelles.
I’m pretending I’m not freezing my ass off while waiting in line for good seats

Liv’s class sang Christmas Don’t be Late

Here’s my tall cutie singing along with her class.

“Hi Daddy!”

Mr George requested anything Steelers and Mrs. Chrissy is a makeup addict *makeup rules!* so Liv got her a gift card from Sephora

Liv made a Christmas present for us at school but we are waiting to open it. I really hope it’s plane tickets to Paris!!

She’s been practicing writing her name all week
Liam is Liv’s #1 BFF *although it changes just about everyday*

After the show we went to lunch with Liv’s Grandma at the York.

Another year of holidays at her preschool are over in a flash. I hope Liv has memories of her incredible school, all the teachers and her friends.

Renegade Craft Fair Holiday Market 2013

Okay, last weekend it was freezing cold, raining cats and dogs, yet today it was scorching hot. I was all bundled up and looking forward to wintery weather today. We took the train to downtown LA and bumped into our friend Connie on the way to the Renegade Craft Fair.

Guess what? It’s fucking HOT!!
Hi Connie!
This bus was so rad! I want to drive it across country like the Partridge Family. It looks like I used a retro filter but this bus has such a cool vibe, it turned out looking vintage on it’s own.
Can you spot the pyschopath onboard the Looksy bus? I was nerding out.
You had me at…

The highlight of going to the craft fair for the past three years has been buying rosemary almond candy from the P.O.P. Butter candy booth. Guess who wasn’t there this year? Bummers! At least we know to find them on Sundays at the Mar Vista farmers market if we really want some.

We did get our annual Magnolia photobooth picture.

I decided to buy one item I really, really wanted rather than a bunch of little impulse buys.

Nan Lawson Margot & Ritchie tote

I couldn’t be happier with my choice. Here’s a complete list of talented vendors for those I’ve missed. Thank you for another inspiring, fun craft fair.

Tuna Melts my Heart

No, not the fish but the raddest dog ever, Tuna. My BFF first introduced me to with this adorable chiweenie a few weeks ago. I started following him on instagram just to see this face!

Best Derp face ever!!

Today this guy was at Handsome Roasters so I had to go get a photo with his lovely face. He was so tiny and sweet.

He wasn’t showing his teefs but his Mommy showed them off for me.

His Mommy giving Tuna some water

There were a lot of fans to see him, he’s got quite the following. Since we were in the neighborhood, we stopped by Poketo to get our #poketoholiday photo taken by Meiko with this colorful backdrop by Adi Goodrich. I see some familiar faces on Poketo’s photo stream.

Meiko took this one with my camera.

Liv calls Poketo the toy store since she always wants a toy from there. The shop always has fun things going on and is beautifully curated by Ted & Angie.

They have too much cute stuff I want to buy!
I can’t wait to make this yummy smelling mulled cider by Urban Palate on Christmas Eve!

What a fun day! We sent out our holiday card so in a few days I’ll share it.
