Party Time, Excellent!

Yesterday was Liv’s first time as a guest at a birthday party!! She partied hard. It was our friend Aura’s daughter, Elina’s 3rd birthday party. Antz found a sweet Barbie Pre-school playset for her *sorry, I have to use a stock image as I totes forgot to take a pic of it*

When Antz showed me the gift, I told him the dolls looked like Aura and Elina, haha! super cute

I picked up some rad Paul Frank wrapping paper and balloons

Here’s what I learned…eff presents, kids go ape shit for balloons!!

I got a workout playing peek-a-balloon with the birthday girl, I was cracking her up!!

Antz tested wearing Liv face-front, although she didn’t seem to complain, it looked too uncomfortable.

The happy, rad family

Elina’s Grandmother is a professional face painter so she prettied all the guests up with butterflies, fairies and flowers

Liv even got painted

Sweet purple flowers

You know I had to get my face painted

My Goddess eye

Liv rocked her new Tarjey dress

She pigged out on pureed pears and pear juice while we had finger sandwiches, quiche and chocolate covered strawberries, YUM!

Look how adorable Aura is, Tres Jolie!!

Liv and Papa playing soccer

Liv was eyeing Antz lollipop with a look of bloodlust
She literally wrestled it out of his hands and had her first taste of the smack, crack, the bad shit
I believe our daughter is now thoroughly addicted to sugar, we will be sending her to rehab promptly. BOO!
This sweet angel is Sofia, Aura’s brand new daughter *remember, she was preggers when we went to the Aquarium a month ago*
This awesome guy is Kevin, Liv made a ton of new buddies. I was talking to Aura’s Mum *who has traveled everywhere and speaks a million languages* It was definitely an international affair, LOVE IT!!

Joyeux anniversaire!!!

Fun Times, Aura’s family and friends were super sweet and welcoming. I am looking forward to many future playdates and parties!!

Kidnapped!!

Any SVH reference makes me giggle *if you are hardcore about Liz & Jes Wakefield as I am, please check this out*
Yep, your dear narrator was indeed kidnapped by her BFF. Thursday Aimee & me had our regular date at Target but we also went on a shopping spree *let me clarify, she did, and even treated me to some yummy smelling coconut bodywash and a cute tote bag* Aimee had a date that evening so we played dress up *the super cute dress I picked was the winner*
Aimee wanted Liv and me to meet Mr. Big, He’s a total sweetheart and he’s Belgium *cool points* Liv really liked him. She asked us to stay so I could get all the date details later so me and Liv chilled at her place while they went for coffee. I was under the impression the date was going terrific because they were gone for several hours. Turns out it was lackluster, she likes him and he is super sweet and funny but the spark was missing. They are going out again next Thursday so I hope it goes better *I’m rooting for you Mr Big!!*
Target was a blast, as always, because I bought some rad stuff for Liv. I finally checked out the Splendid for Target stuff and of course, they were sold out of all the girls clothes. The boys stuff was looking pretty generic and lame so I was disappointed until Aimee and I simultaneously spotted the cutest dress for Liv. Normally I turn my nose up at Target clothes *not edgy enough for me, sorry not a fan of Dora or typical baby clothes* but this dress was a pleasant surprise!

Spring Chic Mum print with adorable buttons
Also these super cute leggings were $3.50 each
Say whaaa? I am loving being a bargain shopper *shh, don’t tell Antz, I’d like to keep up my snob facade*
Sorry I must run, I am catching up with my DVR and I am nerding out because I finally get to watch An Idiot Abroad *heart me some Ricky, Stephen & Karl!!*
TTYL!!!

Oscar Noms

I love awards season *yummy fashion, Hollywood glamour, what’s left of it, and Micheal K’s live blogging makes me laugh until my face hurts* I was too busy trying to make figure out how to make my Mom’s documentary play on our retarded surround sound system, to blog about the Golden Globes this year. I thought Ricky did a fantastic job and I never understand why the old farts hire a controversial comedian to host these *formal* events and then get bent of shape when they tell fucked up jokes. Well this morning the Academy Award nominations were announced and here are my picks *please do not run to your nearest bookie, my choices hardly take home Oscar* Sadly since the joyous new addition to our lives, we no longer go to the movies as often as we’d like to. Let’s just celebrate that Meryl was NOT nominated this year!

Can’t wait to watch the lameness of Anne Hathaway & James “Crossdresser” Franco!

Vacation all I’ve ever wanted

Yep, it’s a Go-Go’s Tuesday jam session and this song is making me want to pack up and get on a plane! I cannot believe I renewed my passport in 2007 and don’t have any lousy stamps so far. We have to take Liv on a trip soon. I can’t wait until San Diego for her birthday in June but I want to travel internationally *well, Europe* so bad it hurts!

I am craving a buttery croissant at a sidewalk cafe in Paris…

Or steaming in the Blue Lagoon in Reykjavík

I add to my own misery by watching House Hunters International and last night’s episode was in Morrocco. Holy Shit, I am not a fan of apartment type living but the buildings they looked at were INCREDIBLE!!
And Fiji, OH-EM-GEE! Story grew up in Fiji and they way she describes it sounds like Shangri-la! But the ultimate was Bali…I have wanted to go there forever. It is definitely on my list of places I’d love to move to when Antz retires.
It really bugs me that you can take $400k *our house’s current value* and move to a tropical paradise and buy beachfront, brand new, luxury, fully furnished, 3 bedroom 2 bath, with a swimming pool and huge acreage without any problem. Yet in LA, you have to be a millionaire to buy into a decent neighborhood and you would only be able to afford a 2 bedroom 1 bath fixer on a tiny lot, paying close to $10k a year in property taxes. I am becoming so cynical *LAME*
Maybe we’ll take a mini road trip this weekend after we go to the birthday party of our friend Aura’s daughter.

This post was inspired by my new Blogtress crush, Kristina
*isn’t she adorable?*
I am so smitten with her blog, Kris Atomic and her photography!!

The Accomplice *shhh, it’s secret*

You should know that I am incapable of keeping a secret! The Accomplice was terrific. Fun, cheesy, silly and exciting all at the same time. We dropped Liv at her Grandmother’s house and made it to Hollywood & Highland *despite stupid traffic* just in time to meet our friends at California Pizza Kitchen. Our friends Warren & Kim were celebrating their anniversary *of their first date, 9 years ago, awww* so that’s why we were playing the game. We randomly saw Craig Robinson  who was having a titillating coversation with a little person, so we were sure he had something to do with the game. Then, as I was hamming it up at the game starting point *which happens to be an oversized yellow chaise* a Japanese tourist, dressed in a kimono, asked me to take a picture with her, we thought, ooh, the game has started for sure, but nothing.

Noone wanted to take a pic of Craig so Kim had some fun with Photoshop *can you find him?*

Gross, I admit

We stood around for ten minutes coming up with our best scenario of how the game would begin *I envisioned a helicopter hovering ahead full of men rappelling from rope that would blindfold us and force us into a windowless van* but I am a bit dramatic, aren’t I? Just then, a chick ran up to us and started talking a mile a minute, before I could whip out my camera she was telling us what was going.

That’s her in the hat

She gave us a bag full of maps, a tape recorder and other unknown items and told us to shut our mouths or else, so we got busy following instructions.

No help from the recorder

After successfully solving the first clues, we found ourselves at Grauman’s Chinese Theater looking for Joan Crawford’s footprints *how lovely, I adore Joan Crawford!*
Sorry, I couldn’t help myself, this is a poor man’s Hello Kitty! Hollywood Blvd is full of grody, knock-off characters *lame Spiderman, Jack Sparrow and SpongeBob’s that look and smell like drunk, bummers* taking photos with tourists for tips, we were looking everyone with espionage on the brain. Trust noone, suspect everyone was the motto.

Don’t we look Scooby-Dooish? Solving crimes and shit, YAY!

Happily, one of our clues lead us to Pig n’ Whistle and a little nosh and beer. Best part of the game was there was ample beer and self-deprecating jokes.

Yummers!I hadn’t eaten all day.

I am not at liberty to discuss the details of the game but let your imagination run free.

Everyone knows this guy?
Scientology and actual bummers were involved…don’t ask, don’t tell!

I was clever enough to figure out the winning code so I opened the prize at the end!!

Wouldn’t you like to know what it was….I’ll never tell!

It was very amusing, we spent 2 1/2 hours running around Hollywood, having a fantastic time.

This was at the end with the producers, they told us we were a fun group and they have The Accomplice in New York and London now. I would definitely play again.

We had drinks *I had a virgin Sex on the Beach* at Angels and Kings bar.

Fun times and look who joined us, SIKE! once again that is Kim’s fancy photoshop skills.
Sunday we cleaned our house and the neighbor’s realtor came by and checked out the house. She seemed, I want to say impressed but not really, I’m sure she looks at million dollar houses all the time so our little shack wouldn’t be dazzling to her. She said it was cute and we definitely needed to get the foundation repaired and take down the chimney *no fucking duh!*. Then came the bad news, she assessed our place based on the current condition, the comps in the area and the square footage for under 400k. BOO, LAME, GONG!! I knew it would be a low number so I was mentally prepared for disappointment. I told her my half-assed Lucy Richardo scheme and she gave us 3 *bummer* options; rent our house out and rent in Atwater Village  for 2 years then sell our house at a loss and take the tax deduction *umm, no way!* Short sale *upon our bank’s approval and rent until we can afford to buy in AV *that’s even more lame* or stay put, make the major repairs and sell in 5 – 8 years when the market has recovered. Our most reasonable option although I really don’t like it. She pretty much validated the truth I was trying to hide from. I won’t be moving anytime soon *maybe not even by my goal, before Liv starts Kindergarden* I was feeling blue about hearing that so Antz took me to Acapulcos *in Atwater, ouch* and I ate a ton of tortilla chips and queso dip. We randomly ended up at Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round *which is always closed when I drive past it* so we checked it out.

There were some pretty creepy looking horses and naked fairies.

I adore Liv with her Papa!!
Awesome weekend, now it’s time to get serious about my resolutions and getting financially ready to move to my Barbie Dream House!!

A Walking Tour of HP

Yesterday was as good as any day to finally drag my butt to the post office to mail the book of photos I put together for my Grandmother Elizabeth in Michigan. I decided since it was a lovely day and God knows I need the exercise to walk to the PO. At a mere 7 blocks, it would seem like a piece of cake. Not-at-all! Highland Park is an urban jungle, the beginning of our journey was met to the sounds of vicious barking dogs and heavy traffic from kids getting picked up from school *not very courteous to a Mommy with a stroller *

My little hipster bebe *sans Van because she’s keen on eating them*

I would LOVE Aimee to get a Vespa!

Hipstermobile

This coffee shop saves York Ave and Highland Park. It’s really cute and charming!

Coffee is hipsters nectar, the Oxy College students come in droves on their bikes, with their skinny jeans, ratty converse and Mac laptops

This is a rare cute vintage clothing store, Aimee and I are going to check it out one of these days

This is a decent bar, The York, it’s packed Thursday – Saturday

Here’s where I begin my rant, this bakery has great potential but it’s so uncute!! Why not paint, get rid of the awful dated windows and renovate it into a sweet bakery?

I popped in but quickly retreated, the shop is filthy, no design and no fresh croissants *BOO!*

This is a treat, a Glass shop opened over the holidays. I hope it stays open by Spring because it’s a cool looking spot

This is a surprisingly cute dress shop

Unfortunately, the entire street is scattered with tacky party stores and pinatas galore *how many different pinatas stores does one need?*

This place is the pet shop equivalent of the Bates Motel *CREEPY* I made the mistake, when we first moved in, of going in there looking for dog food for Maxwell when I found myself in a PIGEON shop. Who the hell buys pigeons?? That is all they sell, seriously thousands of caged pigeons and it appeared that the owner never has cleaned the cages. It was the epitome of GROSS!

Once we got to the Post Office a seemingly nice older lady *a Memaw* struck up a waiting in line conversation *partly with me, mostly with Liv* I have no idea how to respond when it comes to the inane chitchat. I always half laugh and mumble thanks,…it’s a girl…and she’s 7 months. Then I start texting, looking for something in my bag or pretend to seem too busy. I am such a mean girl, it’s hard for me to make small talk with strangers. I want to be like get your nosey ass out of my face, I do not give a fuck that you think they should open more lines! How does one properly respond to the statement “Who is this old lady talking to me?” directed towards Olivia yet staring at me with a crazy person smile…ummm, I don’t know? Awkward!

Doesn’t this house scream charm?!
During my walk home, I was greeted by a rooster crowing at 4:30 in the afternoon. Only in Mexi…Highland Park!! So this is it, this is the eyesore, needs-to-be-condemned-by-the-city, crapshack that I live adjacent to. Please note the lovely tarp patio where the scum lives. Yep, they live outdoors, they aren’t allowed in the house *like indoors is any better* I am so terrified we will get lame ass neighbors moving next door *I spied a fatso pickup truck-driving dirtbag checking out the place on Thursday*
Last night was super fun. We picked up my Mommy and went to dinner at a Creole restuarant Harold & Belles.
HOOLY COW soooo yummy in my tummy!

I ordered the Seafood jambalaya
Mommy had the Shrimp and crawfish Etouffe
Antz had the gumbo *and although he liked it he said mine was better, YAY!*
It was pretty pricey but well worth it, I can’t wait to go to N’orleans and eat authentic cajon cuisine!
This morning we went to the flower mart *after I circled through downtown trying to find it*. I love that place, it always reminds me of the Friday before my wedding when we bought $500 worth of flowers *heavenly* We got some really lovely flowers for $20 bucks and I now have my eye on these potted branches for the living room.
We got hydrangas, antique creamy roses, spray yellow roses and randulums *I know I totes spelled that wrong*

Antz wasn’t liking my randulums but I thought they would look sweet in Liv’s milk vase. They reminded me of a cheaper *$2 a bunch* version of peonies. Antz put together the flowers *he’s the florist in this family*

I must hurry, we are going to play The Accomplice today and I am super excited about it!!

Mix Tape Friday Vol. 8

New Year, New music…sounds lovely to me!

I found this amazing band on my fave show Yo Gabs during the Share episode. They are super cute and have made it to my Awesomely Happy playlist, quite the distinct honor! They remind me very much of Deerhoof with a dash of Freezepop.

I think Yuko Araki “Migu” *the girl drummer is super adorable.

“Count Five or Six” Cornelius

My next band is seriousnessly rad. They sound European but they are from the South *Say whaaa?* totally rocking my world.

“Tim, I Wish you were Born a Girl” Of Montreal

I have been playing this band too much *Antz can’t take them anymore* but I think they are brilliant. Michel Gondry *frequent Björk collaborator* directed this genuis video. I wish they would put out a new album soon, I’ve worn Viva La Woman out!

“Sugar Water” Cibo Matto
Boo, Warner Bros *aka Tha Man* cockblocked embedding for this video but here’s the link.

Now it’s time for Björk song of the week. This week is an oldie but greatly. I know I’m biased but I have never heard such orginality, magnificent voice *even when I have no idea what she’s saying*, such natural talent. Hearing her sing live brings tears to my eyes, it’s so ethereal is the best word I could describe her as.

“Cocoon” Björk

I found out about this next guy from my Beauty School Bff, Jessica. She just saw him play at the Hollywood Bowl and now I’m super jealous. He so reminds me of Elliott Smith *they are both from Omaha* but I hope he doesn’t end up like Elliott, who committed suicide at a young 34 *which I will be turning in 2 months, eeep*  His voice is haunting and sweet, I love this video *Antz cannot stand him, he finds him to be pretentious, haha*

“At the Bottom of Everything” Bright Eyes

Speaking of suicide…why are the most talented and successful people end up depressed and kill themselves? Alexander McQueen, Micheal Hutchence, Kurt Cobain *although, I seriously think foulplay was involved*

On a lighter note, here’s the random song of the day. Brought to you from Space Ghost *a short lived awesome show that has a huge cult following* As a matter of fact, Story was Brak *along with Chris a Moltar* for Halloween one year and their costumes was so spot on I regret being too drunk to have taken a picture. I stole this one from her facebook. I do not love beans, for the record.

“I Love Beans” Brak

My last song for this Mix Tape Friday switches up the all Indie, all the time mix. Being a former MM fan, I get nostalgic for some hardcore rocking every now and again.

*yep, there was a semi-Goth phase in my life, 1997 was a hell of a year!*

That is a scrapbook I made of Marilyn Manson photos and memorabilia, one day Liv will find and say “What the fuck, Mom?!!”

“Coma White” Marilyn Manson
This was back when Rose McGowen was so adorable, before she ruined her face and hooked up with Robert Rodriguez *gross*
I’m going to dinner with my Mommy tonight, later skater!!

Cleaning up our Act!

As I mentioned Saturday night, we needed to clean our messy cave. That is precisely what we did Sunday morning/afternoon. I mean, deep clean, moved furniture, mopped, dusted, took everything off the shelves, went to war with the dust bunnies…

I found dust bunnies as big as Olivia under her crib, GRODY!!

I organized and de-cluttered her dresser, she had tons of clothes and accessories she no longer fits

Antz made this adorable little Brobee for her door

All sparkly and clean, too bad there is no smell-a-vision because it smells so yummy in there!
Antz picked up this guy at a Thrift shop on Friday, I wasn’t feeling it at all but I don’t have the crafty insight that he has. He has a total 6th sense when it comes to trash-to-treasure. I was complaining about not having a desk of my own and for $12.50 he went from this…
to this…

LOVE IT!! The color is fantastic, the Anthropologie knob we picked up on Saturday and the matching seat cushion *and chair we weren’t using* He even painted a matching frame for me to use once we get our pics from Disneyland next month
I’ll say it again, my husband is a GENIUS!! Somebody give him a HGTV show!

Now I’m hanging out in the living room more often instead of balancing my laptop in our bedroom. As soon as we finished cleaning and got all spiffy to go to Target *to check out the new Splendid Baby line* my Mommy stopped by. We took her next door to show her the neighbors house *there was an open house* and we found out that they dropped the price from $469k to $399k, short sale 🙁 BOO! That makes me sad but seeing the condition they left their house sort of gives me hope. They basically moved and didn’t clean, paint or make any repairs. The house is similar to ours in square footage and amenities
although they had their foundation repaired and they rebuilt their fireplace, they don’t have as much charm.
The entire house has popcorn ceilings *obviously disguising cracks*
I do like the dining room built ins and they have orginal windows like ours and Tiffany light fixtures.
the kitchen is smaller than ours.
They do have a lovely tiered landscaped backyard and a screened porch with a bathroom in their over the garage guest house. They also left their fridge, stove and this play set with the house.
I guess it’s what I expected in this market, most houses in this area are listed in the $250’s YIKES!! Their realtor is coming over this Sunday to assess our place and give us some advice on where to put our money. She is a well-known agent in this neighborhood so it would be amazing to hear what she thinks of the place.  After the open house, we went to Fresh & Easy and picked up some dinner. Antz cooked while my Mommy and I played with Liv. Antz made a yummy dinner and my Mommy showed us a documentary she had been working on for months. I am super proud of her, it looked really professional and the music she created sounded rad!

Happily, Antz had Monday off so we went to lunch with Story. Chris had to work so we picked him and some of his co-workers up and we went to this cute place called Grub.

The food was really yummy, and we had a great time until Liv started trying to eat the plants! We missed out on the farmers market so we picked up Spuzz and our friend Dave came over our house with his doggie, Bam Bam. We hung out in the backyard with the dogs *Max was super happy to have a dogdate* and the weather was beautiful. After Story & Dave left, we went to Atwater Village to sign up for the World Citizen dance class *but it was full so we have to wait until March* it’s actually better because Liv will be old enough to take the Scruffin’ Rock class. We took a lovely evening stroll around Atwater and picked up dinner. I feel terrible that I haven’t used the Wii Fit since Friday but I have definitely been active.

Pottyluck

I used to loathe  potlucks, particularly work ones, but over the years I’ve come to enjoy them even if all I ate was dinner rolls and cranberry juice. Tonight, Les invited us to visit our friend who just had a sweet little guy, Elias. I am so happy we went because we had a super, fantastic time!!

*we made them a personalized name banner as a new bebe gift* shameless plug!

We were so happy to see how cohesively it fit into his nursery *I totes forgot to take a pic but they have it attached to his crib with the cutest Dwell Studio bedding set* The party was in a loft in Downtown LA not far from our friend Carlos’s loft and the Nickel Diner. I love their building, it was modern but had old-timey charm *15 ft ceilings, exposed brick, steel columns, open floor plan* Honestly if it weren’t for the bummers, terrible parking and lack of doggie grass for Max, we would live in a loft in a heartbeat. TOTALLY RAD!!
I busted my ass making vanilla/milk chocolate cupcakes to bring because we were running late *as always, my fault, I’ll explain below* but we made it in time for everyone to start eating.
Eating is an understatement…
I stuffed my double-chin face!! I had shrimp egg rolls, spinach mac & cheese *yesh, I enjoyed veggies* chili beans, crab wontons, and gorged on cheesy potatoes and cheesecake. I must have had 3 helpings *BOO* but I am proud of myself for trying new things and not turning my nose up at home cooked food. Most of the cooks were chefs so I knew I was gonna love everything. After going into a food coma on the couch, we hung out with Les & Stephen and had a blast. Liv was just absolutely darling even though she ate as much as me *avocado, pear juice and plenty of boob* They had the sweetest, most obedient doggy I’ve ever seen, Charlie!! He really impressed me, he didn’t even seem to care that he was surrounded by yummy food. Max would have fainted from the smell alone.
Liv was often found under my hooter hider eating

Party Peeps!!

Godbaby #3…Les is quite popular, we’re lucky to have her!

Antz was being Liv hogger all night, his golden phrase is…”Let me take the baby so you can eat, drink, fill in the blank”

Me and new Mama, Roxanne with her sweet little guy! He practically whispers when he cries, he’s so precious.

We left with enough rice to feed an African village!
Here’s Charlie, my favorite guy!

I love the convenient glory hole in the creepy elevator

So, we had a lovely evening and now I’m anticipating what my Wii Fit trainer will say when I have gained 5 lbs tomorrow. The reason we were rushing all day, I seemed to cram too many errands into one afternoon, as I often do*. We got a late start, I was putting together a photobook to send to my grandmother in Michigan and realized I forgot to print any of Liv’s 5 week photo shoot. I had to go to CVS and print more pics, I admit, I’m going overboard, *300+ photos* but she has never seen Liv so I want her to enjoy this amazing child.

Then we grabbed bagels and picked up some ingredients for the cupcake at Fresh & Easy. I couldn’t resist stopping by Anthropologie since we were in Pasadena and the new spring lines are out. Lucky we did because we happened to score this gnarly cardigan for Liv….for, wait for it….$20!! *High fives self!*

I have never purchased anything from Anthro for $20. It’s size 2T but she’ll be wearing it before her 1st birthday for sure.

I am not a tea drinker *unless I’m sick and I’m forced to* but I love pretty tea sets. I can’t wait to play tea party with Liv!!

I am going to kick myself in the face for not getting this adorable teapot vase. It was only $29.99!! Why do I always pass up the sweet deals only to regret it later??

I adore lower case typewriter font A’s. I really need a reason to have this in my house, A for Antz? How about Awesome??!!
I am 99.9% we are getting these birdie dish towels to replace the *sun-faded* dish towel/curtains in the kitchen
One day you shall be mine Fleur de Lys dinnerware!!
After Antz forcibly removed me from Anthro, we went by his Mommy’s house to drop off her keys and let her see Liv *since she’s been in Mexico since Dec. 14th* By the time we got home it was 5pm and the party started at 6! ACKK!
Tomorrow we will deep clean this filth-hole and then, time permitting, we will go to the farmers market and pick up some yummy goodness for Olivia. So far so great with avocados *one of my faves*

I LOVE how she is munching and chewing all the time now, she actually smacks her wittle mouth.
I am hoping we’ll be home in time for the Golden Globes *so excited that Ricky Gervais is hosting again* so I’ll most likely be talking shit about how hideous the dresses are and complaining about how none of my faves ever win *although my money is on Nat Portman taking home an armful of Globes!! Loved Black Swan*
Nights!
