Björk Gudmundsdóttir

What the hell are you doing to me??!!

R. Kelly, Björk, and Belle and Sebastian to Headline Pitchfork Music Festival 2013
Pitchfork Music Festival

Like I can afford to fly *or even drive* my ass to Chicago in July to hear you sing song’s with your voice of an Angel.

Seriously, listening to this woman sing live is like the satisfaction from eating the best meal you have ever had while having a massage in your ears at the same time. Grrr! I am trying to remodel our kitchen, save like a maniac AND we gotta pay for Liv to get her learn on at preschool. Let’s not forget I’m hoping to go to Paris next year as well! Do not even try to interrupt my focus you temptress. I will not buy tickets…I will NOT BUY TICKETS!! *also keep in mind, I haven’t seen Björk live since 2008!! Oh shit…Belle & fucking Sebastian! Please somebody lock my wallet in a vault. Shit, who am I kidding? I have all my credit cards memorized. #Confessionsofamajorshopaholic

I love me some B&S

On top of all this mess, Kate Spade has the nerve to have an awesome secret suprise sale with an ADDITIONAL 20% off. I just can’t!! What is this, the Last Temptation of Liz?

surprise sale. save up to 75% off a curated selection of suprise sale merchandise. plus, an additional 20% off and free shipping.

Well, if I can’t shop, maybe you lovelies can pick up the nylon stripe leslie bag that I want super bad.

Kitchen-plosion!

I have a one-track mind lately, well, actually multi-track mind. Liv being sick for the last 3 days is super lame. I’m just getting over my cold, we are both sad faces.

Matching chins, only her double chin is cute and mine is horrible!

This amazing song is constantly playing in my head from putting together Liv’s birthday party playlist.

Last night Antz and I had our first Wii workout last night *I’ve gained 2 lbs since Halloween* I did 36 minutes of boxing, step, hula hoops and kung fu *my favorite* I’m not the least bit sore today! So when I’m not preoccupied with those things, my mind is daydreaming of our new kitchen. It’s hard to stick to our tight budget, especially when our 10 year old toaster dies and I have been wanting this handsome guy for ages.

Dualit Citrus Yellow New Generation Classic Toaster - 2 Slice
Dualit toaster in Citrus Yellow
So cheery and bright but I just cannot afford $239 for a yellow toaster. I did find something more price friendly that’s cute.
Bella Dots 2 Slice Toaster - White

Although I’ve read reviews that this guy likes to burn toast. Then there’s these vintage inspired guys.

Band of Outsiders Cookie Cutters
Band of Outsiders cookie cutters are on sale
Knowing my luck when I’m ready to buy accessories, they will be sold out *they are sold online only* I am so excited to actually have counter space for lovely things. I am constantly looking at white subway tile kitchens on Pinterest. I’m a little cautious of buying any cute stuff now since I still haven’t gotten a final plumbing quote and I’m expecting a ton of unexpected costs when Ikea installs our cabinets. We didn’t budget for professional demolition. We’re going to attempt to do it ourselves and see if we don’t ruin our house before we have to hire professionals. I have to WILL stay on budget!

Oh Joy! Book Signing at West Elm

Last night Antz, Liv and I went to the Oh Joy! book signing at the West Elm store in West Hollywood. I am about halfway through her book, Blog, Inc.: Blogging for Passion, Profit, and to Create Community, and I hope to finish this weekend *it’s so helpful and motivating*. Joy is one of my fave bloggers and West Elm is one of my favorite furniture stores, so I was in heaven. First stop was the Smilebooth, after grabbing a spicy virgin margarita.

I am obsessed with Smilebooth. That backdrop is so rad!!
TEA61J on Make A Gif, Animated Gifs

I wrote out an important question to ask Joy about how to monetize your blog and what’s the best method.

Check out my stellar houndstooth nails

The store was decorated in the cutest bird motif, I coincidentally coordinated.

Everyone loved Olivia, I got so many compliments on her outfit and her hair.
My kid knows how to ham it up
Antz told Liv to pose so she threw her hand on her hip. We hope we don’t have a Honey Boo Boo on our hands.
I love these vases
Joy & me *I was nerding out!*
I met the lovely Emily Henderson *from Secrets of a Stylist*
I asked her to sign my book. She was super sweet and as awesome as I thought in person.
The event was catered by Heirloom LA. I would love to hire them for a party in the future, the food was fantastic.
Liv helped herself to some nachos
Clam chowder shooters
Cucumber soup in adorable mason jars
I don’t know what I’m cracking up about but hahahaha!
Beautiful Bri from designlovefest was there *she remembered me from the Anthropologie event*
Jen from Ban.do was there too! Such a fabulously stylish lady
She told me there will be a new line coming soon with with sweet pieces like her kiss brooch.
There was a rad DJ from The Flashdance
Liv was getting down
I WANT!! Tassel chandeliers
I am pretty sure I’m going back for these Mercury Owls, they are so sweet and a portion of the sale goes to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Joy answered my question and gave me excellent advice. I don’t just want this blog to be a money maker because I love blogging, but would be amazing to find sponsorship for my Life List and also make enough in ad sales to pay for Blogshop class so I can learn how to format my posts and make my photos better.

Joy is so fantastic!

Here’s a little video from her Q & A. She was telling us about different options to improve our blogs.

I can’t tell you how inspiring the evening left me. I met so many awesome bloggers. One women I met offered to send Liv a box of clothes from the children’s line Wittlebee. I am so stoked to dress Liv in their clothes. My mind is swimming with new blog ideas. I’m glad we went since I was so exhausted from a long, fun day *I’ll post more about that later*

fun

Happy Weekend lovelies!

Mix Tape Fridays Vol. 16

This week’s jams are pretty random but so is my taste in music. Please do enjoy!!!

Starting with my Die Antwoord, who are South Afrikan, crazy creepy and awesome!

“Baby’s on Fire” Die Antwoord

She’s too cute for words. This song is perfect for Liv’s 3rd year video.

“White Lights” Oh Land

This is an oldie but goodie, I’m not a huge fan of this video but the song is a classic!

“So Fresh & So Clean” OutKast

I can’t stop playing this song. JE’TAIME!!!

“Comment tu Dire Adieu” Françoise Hardy

I know this is totally random but I love me some S&G. I also love The Graduate which I have seen several times but only understood it as an adult. Cu-ca-choo!

“Mrs. Robinson” Simon & Garfunkel

Now the mandatory Björk song of the week. This song always getting me going. It’s so amazing and fun to dance around to. How adorable is Pedo Bear!

“Human Behavior” Björk

Besides LDR being overrated, I still enjoy this song. I always think of this skit of Kristen Wiig doing a spot on impression *boy, SNL is suffering without her*

“Video Games” Lana Del Rey

You’re So Nice and You’re so Smart. I dedicate this song to Antz.

“So Nice So Smart” Kimya Dawson

Pretty Photos from National Geographic. This song is from one of my all-time top ten movies, High Fidelity.

“Dry the Rain” The Beta Band

This song is so 80’s and soo good. It’s definitely my soundtrack for this weekend.

“A Real Hero” College featuring Electric Youth

I’m adding this as a bonus video. This dude is beyond awesome and I can’t get this song out of my head, really it’s too catchy!

“Gangnam Style” PSY

That is all, my friends. Aside from an event at Liv’s school and then dinner with friends tonight, we have ABSOLUTELY nothing planned this weekend. I’m so excited to laze around the house and possibly clean out my closet, and pull out my warmer clothes *my leggings, tights and jackets*

Happy Friday!!

Mix Tape Fridays Vol 15

My car is all better now, hooray! I’m picking her up when Antz gets home tonight. We have a pretty busy weekend planned so I’ll be back Monday. Let’s hope I finish Liv’s doll!

Have a Rocking Weekend!!

Rattlesnake & Rabbit

That is what Antz consumed for dinner last night. No, we didn’t go huntin’ Apple Valley style, we had sausages from Wurstkuche in Downtown LA with Morgan, Terry & Kieran. I have heard of how awesome this place is for months and it was pretty rad. I wasn’t as adventurous and stuck with a good ole’ spicy Louisiana link but the Belgium fries were delish. After dinner, we walked over to the MOCA and checked out the crazy exhibit *I felt like we stepped into a Kanye West video.  Then we rocked out to DJ Z Trip

This building reminds me of Aimee, it’s so her style!
KIERAN!!

The most popular brat is the rattlesnake and rabbit

The Belgium fries were awesome

Career Day

Remember those? I loved bringing my Mom to my school to show off her percussion skills to my class. Yesterday she went to her friend’s school for career day and blew some high school kid’s minds. The school is a performing arts charter *like FAME* so having my Mom playing for them was a pretty big deal. I couldn’t help but feel proud of my kick ass Mommy, she rocks!! Liv and I drove to Apple Valley for a few hours and headed back home just missing rush hour traffic.

Playing with the Jazz ensemble

Talking to the class about how she started with Motown and kept ahead of her game as a woman drummer.
This kid flipped out and asked for her autograph while I played paparazzi

New drummer in training

Playing “I Want You Back” by the Jackson 5, these guitar students were incredible

GOOD NEWS!!! I found a short clip of the performance on the Flip *which has been wonky but I hope is fixed now*

Love you Mom, you are an inspiration!!

Tired of Being Sexy

Don’t worry, I’m not tired of being sexy at all, that is the translation of the Brazilian band CSS *Cansei de Ser Sexy* that Aimee, her son Holden and I saw last night at The Observatory. They were amazing!

The venue was deep in the OC *yuck* and the first 2 opening bands sucked. Aimee and I went apeshit when CSS was on. We danced and dorked out. I filled up my iphone with pictures and video and of course, it wouldn’t be Liz fashion to have non-blurry photos. I actually have to take credit, I was dancing and jumping around so much I didn’t have much of a steady hand. Enjoy

My rawk face
Loading up on pre-show snacks. WTH is Holden drinking?
SLURRRRRRPEEEE!
Uh, Talapia & the Fleas?
Just wow!
Ready for some fucking CSS!!!
You can’t tell but that’s a CSS pin on my hat
This is how teenagers rock out
My BFF is so damn cute!!
White Arrows *aka we sound just like Vampire Weekend*
ROCK FACE!

Lovefoxxx is amazing!!!!

Music is my HOT, HOT SEX!!!! my favorite song

This one is for Aimee, cause Annabelle Lwin is FREAKY!!! but I love this song.

“Aphrodisiac” Bow Wow Wow

This song is dedicated to my lovely. His name is Antz and I want to dance to this with him.

“Jaan Pehechaan Ho” Muhammad Rafi *from the Ghost World soundtrack*

Mandatory Björk song off the week. This B-side is such an incredible song. I haven’t heard it for years until I made Evelyn & Dion a mix tape for their care package. Bloody fantastic!
*not sure why they are showing the Joga video*

“Sod Off” Björk

Original Bad-ass, Johnny Cash

“Boy Named Sue” Johnny Cash
