Let There Be LAMP!

So you remember last week I scored the lovely Orimono lampshade from Anthro on super sale? Well Antz brought home a lamp for my crafting desk. He sprayed a few coats of white spray paint and…

VOILA!

This pretty much makes me want the matching pillow, maybe one day it too shall go on sale?
Or…have I reached a new level of craftihood to attempt this pillow myself like Suzannah did over at Adventures in Dressmaking??!!
So lovelies, have you conquered any DIY projects lately? I’d love to hear about them in zee comments.
Adieu!

Happy May Day!!

So after throwing my hands up trying to upload photos to make our Shutterfly photobook we ran a bunch of errands. Stop one was CVS to print out some pictures for Liz’s bebe book. They don’t sell Sunday papers so we went to a local grocery store and I scored my coupons!! Nearly everything on my Target list now has a coupon so I am super happy. Next we grabbed pizza from our favorite place in Silverlake. We stopped by an Open House at a new store called Atwater Village Farm. They were giving out yummy samples and I signed up for events. We had to hurry over downtown since everything closes early on Sunday and at first I was worried all the fabric district was closed but we found a ton places that were still open. At first I was discouraged because I wanted to buy less than a yard since I won’t need that much material for the wings but every place said I had to buy a minimum of 1 yard and most of the fabric was $4.99 per yard. I wanted at least 12 different colors like the photos

She has 13 layers on hers and I wanted to stay as close to her color palette as possible. So after a few lame stores, a guy helping us whispered for us to go around the corner and we’ll find a much more affordable spot. Ummm, yesh please!

Now I’ve always had my doubts when shopping on the Eastside of downtown. There is a clear line between camp and tacky and I was worried I would find shitty prints and gross fabric but I found the most adorable fabrics at the giant store. They were closing when we got there so they had to push us out the door but everything was looking FABulous. I could see going there to buy fabric to reupholster chairs and couches for our next house. I also LOVE the colors I bought *a steal at $1.99 per yard* I bought 12 different colors and I’m keeping it a secret until I finish the project *in case it turns out lame*
So we came home and vegged out but by nightfall Antz felt like taking an evening stroll so we tried a new route in Los Feliz Village and came upon this treasure

Spitfire Girl

It was total happenstance that we were walking by this shop and we saw it was the only place open. We popped in when my jaw hit the floor. It was basically a miniature Anthropologie meshed with Oscura from Oddities. Translation: REALLY FUCKING COOL! I literally wanted to buy everything I saw. They had the Owl umbrella stand I’ve had on my wishlist forever, really lovely Victorian pieces and artwork. I want it ALL!! These were the only pictures I was able to snap because I was so busy drooling over everything. Wouldn’t fate have it that I left my wallet in the car…Aimee & I will have to go next week!!

Aimee has been wanting a terrarium for her new place…

The shop owner *I’m guessing, not quite sure* is in this pic, is mega rad, they had taxidermy pieces that were both creepy in a Hitchcock way and also interesting in a nerdy way. Okay, I got to go…David Gerken *my CNN crush*  is on.
I leave you with Obamapimp!!

These are some more of my Favorite Things

Whew, I finally got through most of the Royal wedding coverage. I was thinking of how ugly the enclosure we bought to contain Livzilla whilst I do chores, take a quick shower and even happily play in when I’m blogging, like she is doing right now. So I was looking for a remedy from this gray eyesore when I stumbled upon this

HOLY SHIT!! I am drooling…I must make this card table playhouse!! So incredibly adorable. If you aren’t brave enough to take on a crafty project like this yourself, you can purchase them from MissPrettyPretty on Etsy. With the cuteness and detail she has created, I find the price is quite reasonable. I can see Liv having tea parties in there *we’ll have to add a lamp for her*
Smila Blomma looks like a good option.
Another favorite thing is this sweet gift from our friend Dave who just returned from Russia.
I am a huge fan of nesting dolls. Love the artistry, thanks Dave!
So, how about this?
This guy is a strong contender for Liv’s birthday present *I am contractually obligated to shut my fat mouth about any other details*
My very favorite thing is the engagement photo shoot of my friends Carlos & Stephanie *I’m officiating their September nuptials*
GORGEOUS!! Loving their photographer me, my camera and you

Ahh, Steph is a pretty awesome jumper, love it!

They are super rad. Earlier this week I received their Save the Date in the mail and it’s just as adorable
The C&S is interactive by flipping the string it animates an arrow going through the heart *Fancy!*
Another favorite thing I failed to post about on Wednesday was my shopping trip with Aimee. I was so tired to blog about it but we went pre-shopping for Aimee’s apartment and I finally used the $50 giftcard from Anthropologie for my birthday *Merci Story & Chris*
I bought this FABulous shirt, the London kids cards I mentioned earlier and these super fantastic eyeglasses strap *I am really nerding out about my Librarian chic style*
I think I’ll wear it tomorrow when we take Liv to the park to meet her BFF Charlotte *if the weather is nice*

Me & Bestie being silly

She scored this cute infinity scarf on sale at Urban *she’s gonna kill me for posting this wonky pic of her, haha!*
They are so stellar, they look awesome in person. My only problem is when I hold Liv, she tries to eat them!

My shirt says “This means RAD!!” however in all honesty, it’s written in Japanese. For all I know it could say This means LOSER!! We went to BabyGap so I could buy a swimsuit for Liv but they didn’t have it in stock yet. So I went to BabyGap in Glendale *who was having a big sale* but they didn’t have what I wanted either so I’ll have to wait until next week to get it for the San Diego trip. I am thinking of some sandals too
I’m usually not a fan of a 2-piece for a little girl but I love this rashguard and the boycut of the bottoms. The coral color is fantastic, I wish Gap had this in my size!!
My last favorite thing is my new book *I picked it up at Target last night*

Tina Fey is remarkable, I’m sure I’ll be laughing throughout this book.
Hopefully, I’ll have time to finish it before Liv graduates from high school!!

Spring has Sprung!

Los Angeles has finally gotten the memo that it’s springtime. Most of March was cold and rainy but this week Mr Sunshine popped his head out and the skies are bright and blue. Our garden has even turned gorgeous *in spite of our total lack of care*

This lovely weather isn’t going to last long, we have a bunch of stuff to do and places to go!

the awesome park in San Gabriel

Sign Liv up for swimming lessons

Buy this guy and go for a family bike ride on the Strand

Get busy on our raised organic veggie garden *lemon cucumber…sounds delish!*

and playdates galore

Did I mention that Liv is on a solid food hunger strike? She has decided that puffs will be her only food of choice in between her demand for boob. She actually slaps the spoon out of my hand. Maybe it’s payback for getting her a cage…errr, I mean gated enclosure.

My monkeys in their cage

I had to stop Liv the Destroyer, she was pulling my books off the bookshelves, torturing our houseplant and getting into any type of mischief you could imagine. I can’t help but find our little Hellcat way too adorable!

My favorite hobby

Did you guess correctly?? Shopping, of course!!

Yesterday I didn’t get to all the places on my list but I did make it to Anthropologie in Pasadena. I am beginning to not like that one, they never, ever have what I’m looking for in stock. The Beverly Hills store would have had what I wanted, we’ll go on Sunday.

Tin Roof Switchplates

Yesterday I started off buying 12 tickets at Arclight so all my friends can sit together for Sucker Punch. Since I was up early I decided to run some errands. I had to return the shower curtain liner at Bed, Bath & Beyond since the one we bought was too narrow. I picked up a new toilet seat and I found this bird hook for the bathroom door.

Not bad for $10 bucks, Antz needs to spray paint it, of course

This is the hook I wanted from Urban for $16 plus $10 shipping, no deal.
I am still considering this owl bank “Rosa” but that depends on what we find when we go to Wacko’s. Urban bummed me out because the Buddha lamp and my sewing machine were only available online but they placed the order for me over the phone and waived my shipping fee. I even got this cute comforter on sale for $69.
I went to Paper Source for find pretty paper to line the medicine cabinet with.
I was happy to see that they were donating 10% of all sales to Japan.

Paper Source is one of those overwhelmingly lovely stores. It’s so difficult to choose from all the prettiness but this Japanese floral print won me over. I also couldn’t resist this adorable bird frame which will go on the top shelf over the mirror.
I had to return some things at Target and I found these rugs
I really want a new 4 x 6 rug for the bedroom. These are pretty good contenders and they are on sale. They look plush and I like the mum print but I have to see what Antz thinks.
Last night Evelyn & Dion bebesat for us while we met our friends and saw Sucker Punch. It wasn’t the most clever story but the makeup was impeccable *all the chicks had stellar false eyelashes* and I almost pissed myself when they played Björk like 20 times!!! I was entertained but I did roll my eyes at the overly ridiculous CG and lame script *what did I expect from Zach Snyder*
Tomorrow we are going to Wacko’s with Aimee to find some goodies. Antz installed the faucet *after 2 frustrating hours* and he’s still trying to figure out the new shower shelves.

Design Star

Well, maybe not but my dearest thinks I could design for the stars. Last night we didn’t even get started until after 9pm because Antz has been working late all week *I’ll explain later* so the poor thing has had no rest all week. I painted the trim but I was so tired I didn’t do that great of a job. Antz patched up the gray paint and installed the toilet *imagine the sky looking celestial with sun beaming down over our toilet* I never was so happy to have a lousy toilet! I went to bed with a smile on my face but Antz stayed up until 3am installing the vanity and building the storage cabinet. When I first saw the room put together, I was overall pleased but the new sink looked tiny but now that I’ve lived with it for a few hours, it makes the room look bigger. The knobs are my favorite part of the room.

The bathroom neon green before *yesh, we conscientiously chose that wall color*
I’ll miss our Johnathan Adler Seven Deadly Sins Shower Curtain *we are saving it for our next house*

We put up twinkle lights for our Halloween party and they have stayed ever since. I am seriously afraid of the dark so I have nightlights in every room of the house but the little nightlight in the bathroom wasn’t enough for me in the middle of the night. Later I’ll show you the nightlight replacement.

Neon green, orange and white was our old palette to match the shower curtain. It honestly seemed like a good idea at the time. I loved how the colors went well with the Antz artwork.
And now the bathroom has a new attitude!!
Hello taller, elongated low flush toilet, love your fancy flush button on the top!

The new vanity and storage cabinet, I was concerned it would feel cramped in there but it’s much more roomy than what we previously had.

Antz calls this open house chic. Sorry, I tried several times to get a shot of everything but it’s impossible.

The floor doesn’t look too shabby, eh? Just wait until we install the white subway tile and a new bathtub.

The knobs are so adorable, love them!!
Say hello to our new friend, Orchy…she’s purple and she needs a new planter *snagged her from Home Depot, I am hoping I don’t kill her*

Antz just made this lovely Before & After

So the room is about 75% finished, we still need to add towel hooks, some knick knacks, an electrical outlet cover and the lamp. I am going shopping today.
Looking at these from Pottery Barn

This is the lamp I want from Urban Outfitters
We like these towel hooks for behind the door but it’s only available online and I don’t want to pay $10 shipping. Hmmm, maybe I’ll have to buy my sewing machine to get free shipping *devious!*

*it’s on sale for $99!!*
I need a new planter from Anthropologie for Orchy.

I am loving this pot, it’s the perfect size and look at the price!! I have never seen anything under $10 there before. I am keeping my fingers crossed it has enough holes in it since that lady at Home Depot said if I change pots it needs holes and only water once a week.
I like this for the electrical outlet cover.
I am also going to Target for a few things *more towels* and maybe a frame for the Keep Calm poster. There’s a space next to the mirror that we may add some artwork or a print.
So there you have it…our newly designed LOO! Speaking of Loo, Antz promised me he’d make me a sign to hang on the doorknob…Babe??
All should be complete by Friday just like I planned, Evelyn & Dion will enjoy a new bathroom while they bebesit Liv, YAY!!

SUPER Lizzie!!

Who knew I had brains, beauty and brawn??

Yesterday I had the most blissful hour at Gilli’s and now I’m hooked so I’ll be getting treatments every Monday. I missed my lovely Gilli, she’s always comforting and destresses me. She gave me some gnarley news…she knows someone who works in kids casting so she’sgoing to hook me up with her to get Liv into the Biz!!! Super fantastic, I need to make some heatshots for her *this is me turning into a stage Mom, stop me before I enter her into a pageant*

Toddlers & Tiaras: David Perez by TheDlisted

So after a quick lunch at my Mommy in laws house, Liv and I hung out until Antz came home, then it was back to work. Sadly the morning laundry fiasco was worst than we thought, the water made the entire left side of the tile adhesive *butter* soft, so we just painted the wall where the sink and the toilet are going and we had to wait until the morning for the floor to dry. I hate waiting…we still have no toilet, folks!!!

We got an idea of our wall color but it needs another coat and paint the trim tonight. At first I was worried about the color *it looked too office building, kinda boring* but Antz has reassured me once the furniture and the accessories are in the room it will look awesome.
This morning I watched a few youtubes of how to grout and got busy. It was pretty easy peasy, again like buttering I applied it with a foam trowel and filled in the gaps. I was slow but I think I got good coverage.

See how lame that stupid pink tub looks. I can’t wait until next year when I can get it out of there!

As impressed as Antz was with my handiwork, I don’t see a future as a handywoman. My legs and arms are sore, my nails are a tragic mess and Liv was screaming her face off for an hour while I tried to hurry and finish grouting. She cried for so long she actually fell asleep standing in her crib.

I think pray we’ll be done by Friday which is perfect because Evelyn & Dion will bebesit for us while we meet our friends to see Sucker Punch. I haven’t been to the movies since Black Swan in January. Before I go, I wanna let everyone know we have been super busy with this renovation but next week Liv’s weekly pics will be posted…Ooopsies!

I also want to profess my adoration for these MEGA CUTE boots.

I’m typically not into cowboy boots…but these are rad!

I’ve been looking at the Lucchese website for these colors but no luck. The prices vary between $900 and $3000 *yep, that was my jaw that just dropped* no wonder the woman in this magazine called them her “investment”.

Poor Antzy came home from a busy day of work to paint.

The gray against that pink gives me chills *in a creepy sort of way* Blech!

He did an excellent job but I think I’ll have to paint a second coat tomorrow morning. He’s going to finish the trim tomorrow evening so we’ll finally have a toilet again, Huzzah!!

I joined Pinterest today…I’m still trying to figure out some setting issues but it’s pretty cool.

Today is your Birthday!!!

I know, you may think I was relaxing, maybe getting pampered with a mani/pedi sipping lemon water or maybe out shopping for a nifty *you heard right, I’m bringing back 50’s slang* shiny, new sewing machine. Well I in fact spent my 34th hunched over on my knees “buttering” our floor tile. The fates thought it would be awesome to have the coldest, wettest and windiest storm in the history of Los Angeles. My birthday also welcomes the first day of spring but I am wishing we don’t have an entire rainy spring season.

My lovely BFF spent the night and Antz bought me my favorite ice cream cake…YAY!!

J’adore my cupcake candles!!!

How attractive is my vomit green old Delias sweater, my homeless hat *or as Antz calls it, my Lucy McGillicuddy clown look* and my snot rags on the table? Last year this time I was chowin’ down on melt in your mouth Morton’s steak and drinking virgin mai tais at the Standard rooftop
Rain on my birthday….check!
Sick on my birthday…double check!!
Working my ass to the bone, going toiletless for going on 48 hours and we still need to grout tomorrow…CHECKMATE!!
I had a lovely birthday weekend *thanks to my incredible, tireless, considerate, devoted hubby and my wicked awesome, beautiful best friend* despite all my complaints and my poor bladder.
I am super proud of Antz and my craftsmanship, it has been exhausting but going more smoothly than I anticipated.
Just to recap for the thousandth time…this was the bathroom at the open house,
*Dusty rose is TAC-KAY!!*
Here’s the loo after we worked our magic on it

I have lived with that shiteous laminate floor for 5 years yet I have no close up photos but you get the gist. Antz started pulling up the old yucky floor on Friday night. To our delight, there was not only disgusting black mold under the vanity *we expected that because our plumbing has Charlie Sheen DNA* but under the stick and peel floor was more stick and peel laminate in 60’s era yellow. Blech! Not only have our previous homeowners have bad taste but they were cheap as well.

 Boo Double Laminate Whammy!!

Reminds me of a horror movie 🙁

Poor husband, trapped in another one of my schemes!

I want to barf when I see this catastrophic site, thankfully Antzy sent Liv and I on a errand to Target while he tackled the floor prep *to keep the tiny, yucky germs away from Liv*. I picked up Antz Mom for reinforcements to keep an eye on Liv while we worked.
Dude at Home Depot told us we can use bleach and this cement Wonderboard and some waterproof paint and Voila!
As much as I love pink, this stupid pink took 12 stinking hours to dry. Not the ideal night to have Aimee sleep over *we had a hysterical incident with a bedpan but I won’t get into details* Granted to say, we visited Starbucks a bunch of times *I even scored a free Carmel Apple cider*
After hours of tedious tile laying we took a lunch break

Antz worked the wet saw like a pro, even in the storming rain

His cuts were perfect all thousand of them *lousy pink tub!!*
When it was time to butter, we literally said where’s the butter *or in technical terms thin set ceramic tile adhesive* we forgot to buy the glue to hold the tile in place. So I took advantage of a much needed bathroom break and went to Home Depot to pick up some more supplies *hey, shopping is shopping*
When I returned, I was all set to hand Antz tools, keep Liv entertained and do my usual slacker routine when I saw how physically exhausted he was I became the Butter Master. I got into Zen mode with buttering the butter.
Just like frosting a cake!

So much for slacking but it was fun and I had the opportunity to leave my mark with this remodel.
A few month’s back I read about John & Sherry from Young House Love finding a letter from previous homeowners hidden away behind a wall, so I thought I must leave a note to any future owners of this house!!
*I wasn’t even tempted to say how much the neighbors suck*
I am hoping my plan to sell in 4 years comes to fruition so that my letter is true.
*GASP, I look a mess!!* I wish I could be here when the new owners pull up this tile and discover my note *tucked away in laminate*
Cheers to our first attempt at MAJOR renovatin’!!
See my secret…*giggle*

So now we blow on it and wait…wait…wait another long 12 hours for the tile to dry. We will grout tomorrow night and that will take a full 24 hours to dry. Next on the list is painting, installing the sink, toilet and the cabinet so I think by Friday I will have a lovely brand-new We-Did-It-Ourselves bathroom!!
Now that I have some Me time *notice the time of this post* I am girl crushing on this model *and her amazing clothes*
photographed by the amazing Pauline Darby.

Busy Weekend

Saturday we spent all day shopping for bathroom supplies at Lowes and Home Depot. Totally exhausting but I am super happy we got everything we needed for much less than I budgeted for. We found the identical vanity/sink in espresso at Lowes for $168 *Home Depot was $199 and it’s available online only so we’d pay another $49 bucks for shipping* I also read reviews that folks who bought the Home Depot vanity, it took 6 weeks to arrive and once it did it was damaged. Long story short, we are satisfied with our new vanity despite the 33″ height *we pretty much will have to bend over to wash our hands but we are giants*
So after all the shopping, we packed Liv up and Antz took her to his Mommy’s house so she could babysit, while I attempted to take a nap *my Mom called, and interrupted me and Max decided it would be the perfect time to have a barkathon* Later we got all dolled up and went to the Edison *one of our fave bars* for our friend Carlos’s 30th birthday party.
I rocked my Librarian chic look
This place is so SteamPunk Antz told me all night!!!
Carlitos, the birthday boy *love the suspenders*
The soon-to-be-married couple *how cute is their wedding date, 9/10/11??!!
Los was knocking back the old fashioneds all night
I look like such a nerd, I’m embracing it!! I had a lemon drop and Antz had Stella Atrois beer, I hadn’t drank in so long that I was tipsy after one lousy drink. But we certainly had a great time. All of Carlos’s friends are pretty and I chatted with some really cool people.
Burlesque shows make me happy!!

While we were saying our goodnights, Carlos and Steph took me aside and asked me if I was shy...ummm hello?!! No way I say not understanding why they asked but they told me they would like me to officiate their wedding. FUCK, FUCKITY!!! I was screaming and crying. I felt so honored to be such an integral part of their day. I’m thinking of a million things I need to do now. Get ordained online, write my ceremony  *I can’t wait to ask if anyone objects to this wedding part*. Most importantly, I have 6 months to lose some poundage because I’ll be pissed if I bring my double chins to their wedding photos! I had this dress in mind as a guest love the flower applique

but now I need something more errr, official I suppose. Ignoring Antz recommendation for me to wear a robe and Aimee told me to dress like the Pope. Hardy har, har! I will most likely coordinate with the wedding party colors *which I need to find out* yet I need to be conservative, I’m a good Catholic girl! *wink*

So we picked up our angel and got home at 2am *which was really 3 due to daylight savings time*. We still managed to wake up around 10am and drag our asses over to the Rose Bowl flea market. I was hoping to find vintage brooches, nerdy eyeglasses, cute shabby chic accessories and old-timey letters.

It was a beautiful day so of course all of LA was there. Everywhere I looked it was Indie/Hipsters and Rockabilly chicks.
$16 bucks for admission?? We could have gone to the movies *although the only one I want to see is Sucker Punch and that doesn’t come out until the 25th*
This should have given me a hint of the circus atmosphere inside but I was sure I would find all kinds of goodies.
I picked up these glasses but now I’m feeling buyer’s remorse, if I didn’t feel so rushed and there wasn’t so much inventory to sort through, I would have made a more sound decision. I hate shopping under chaotic circumstances.
The moment we went inside it was sensory overload, there was thousands of vendors *a majority of them were pretty rude* and it was super crowded I couldn’t focus on what to buy.
It’s not a real flea market until you spot a creepy clown….shudder!
I have no idea if these were authentic Louis V. but I didn’t dare to inquire about the price, I knew it would be far too expensive for me.
I really would love a retro record player but I think I’ll play it safe with a Crosley version from Urban Outfitters because I wouldn’t have any guarantee if I bought an older version that it would work.
We bought a “B” for $3 but didn’t find anything else we liked. The flea market was awesome but overwhelming. I wish it were more often than every second Sunday of the month so it would be less crowded but I would definitely return to find furniture for our next house.

We only stayed for an hour and a half. We went to Anthropologie in Beverly Hills after but I’m sorry to say I am much to tired to post about it tonight *well, it’s after midnight* We had was a FABulous time and I bought some lovely things but I need my beauty rest so I’ll upload the pics in the morning.

Nights!!

When Life gives you lemons….

You get lemon in your eye!!! The on-going barf-room saga continues…Sigh, here’s the bitter, Malcolm phoned in the estimate…okay I guess he’s drinking Tigerblood. This guy wants ten G’s to make water come from a fuckin’ pipe! *SIGH* Bloody fuckin’ extortion, *yep, I throwing F bombs everyone’s way today* the cruddy part is he is reasonable, and he’s honest, Boo! This includes complete copper piping, new water heater, replacing the tub, demo-ing the showerwall, so he can work on the pipes while we simultaneously retile the wall and he has to add clean out and shut off valves, boring junk.

Instead of racking up new credit card debt, I’ll be patient and we’ll save for a year. *mumble, grumble, bitch, bitch* So the major work is now on hiatus until next March. And now for the sweet, we will rock out a mini loo makeover.

We will tile the floor, paint, new sink/vanity *we are getting the dark espresso vanity* new Anthro knobbies

Loving this classic vintage style which happens to match our glass doorknobs.
and a lovely TALLer toilet. YAY! I’m pleased as punch that the gross laminate floor is going bye bye.

This morning Liv had her 9 month pediatrician appt. She has lost 2 oz. but Dr. Wang said that is normal with breastfed babies, they tend to be on the skinny side *talk about jealous!!*

My necklace was the perfect distractor, she hardly noticed when the nurse pricked her heel.

She has grown 1/2 an inch and still has a tiny head *like her Mum*
Hi Dad, how’s it going?
Shots suck guys!
but now I’m over it!!

Dr Wang did green light us for chicken, turkey, lean beef, yogurt, cottage cheese and string cheese. I went to Whole Foods after the appt. and spent 20 minutes reading the sodium content on the thousands of different yogurts Whole sells. I ended up with Fage *that’s Fa-hey* plain no-fat Greek yogurt. I couldn’t bring myself to buying cottage cheese for Liv *major YUCK!!* I looked at the organic meats but I think I’ll do better at the farmers market but I did buy these guys.

Liv LOVES these!! Not kidding, she ate an entire snack ball of them, she knows how to take them from the ball and eat them 4 at a time.

Tomorrow is Aimee date day. We are going to Nordstrom to pick up my boots and Target, duh! Lord, give me strength to not spend $89 on this duvet set I have been lusting after for months now…

I wannit!!
I know this is random but Annie Leibovitz is stupid fresh. I just spent the past hour drooling over these photos.

Makes me want to play dress up and have Antz take my pics *maybe another day*
